  • Introduction

    Hi everyone!

I realize that I posted on a few threads but never posted an introduction.

My name is Melissa...I'm originally from Texas but now I live in Canada. I'm not Native American (lol though I have heard some people in my family tell the classic "someone in the family was Native American" story that every white person hears).

I didn't come onto the forum looking to to be a "wannabe" or a "hobbyist" as I've seen other white folks described (I'm comfortable with who I am). I'm here because I homeschool my kids, and when I teach them about history/other cultures, I want to give them an accurate picture of indiginous culture and history. We do a lot of "field trips" related to whatever we are studying, and I thought that attending a pow wow (as a spectator, of course) would be a great way to introduce the kids (and myself, really, too) to Native American culture.

I also have lots of questions about a lot of different things.

I hope you guys don't mind me being a part of your community here :). Everyone has been very friendly to me so far, and I really appreciate that a lot. Thanks!

Nice to meet you all :)

    Melissa

Welcome to Powwows.com. ^^^^^I want to add to the comment that we are all pretty much blunt and you must have a strong skin to take the blunt. We have the experience of being perspective as Native people.

Enjoy reading and posting here. It is good to know that you want to learn about us and our traditions. We are many different tribes in North America and also South America.

To those who may ask, Who the hell does this guy think he is?, after reading this, i very quickly wrote that in another thread "craft contest sponsors" so I don't have to bore readers with a second round of it :) http://www.powwows.com/gathering/sho...965#post707965

How should I feel about this?
                by usernumber2016
I have a question, my name is Danica, I'm a young, female filmmaker and I'm not sure how this will come across but I'm asking it. I discovered a few years back that my father and grandfather was cherokee and half white, my grandmother was 5% black and Native American. So I have Native American blood....

                Hello, everyone!

I'm new around here, and the reason I registered here was because I'm interested in history and various cultures, but am somewhat ignorant of Native American culture. Even though I've read many books on Native American history and culture, I'm sorry to say that I've...

                Hello everyone,

I come here hoping to learn more about native Indian folklore and spiritual things. My interest is to also find more definition in my own roots (?spiritual?), albeit I am a white man but my spirit seems to be that of an ancient one from a time before the mid 19th century,...
