clarify... Crows often had females in leadership positions and many times women held the position as Chief of the Tribe. Do a little reading on the Clan system of the Crow Indians and you will get a better understanding of the importance of woman in our culture. My Grandmother was our leader in our family and that's true in many other Crow families. It works well, I think others should use the same system but that's just my opinion because well just read my friend. LOL I'm off my soap box!

Having women for Chiefs and Mayors, even Presidents of the reservation or First Nation had been around for many, many and many years, even in the modern times like today. Women are being accepted from Native men. There are some white men who don't approve of women being Chiefs and that is discrimination. It is wrong for White men to tell women that we are suppose to be 2nd class, even NDN men were 2nd class, too. Why are we being discriminated because of our gender?
If your friend is Cherokee, then he should know that Wilma Mankiller, a Chief for her people. It is not rare and can be voted between men and women.Gegiibishedjig (Deaf Person)

by Annie FawnA piece of history we need to remember, or perhaps become aware of, told in a brief and moving way. I never knew this anyway.
This is the story of our Grandmothers, and Great-grandmothers, as they lived only 90 years ago.
It was not until 1920 that women were granted the...-
