  • Last season the western conference looked good at all star break, then folded up their tents and called it a day in the finals....the east baby!

    • Wow!! D. Wade's injury puts a bit of a damper on the game tonight. Should the Mavs win, the excuse will be that Wade wasn't in the line-up. I was really hoping for them to be full strength.

I feel for all the Heat fans. I would hate for something like that to happen to Dirk.

Now that Miami's season has taken a turn for the worse, anyone bet Pat Riley takes another leave of absence?

      • the trades are still open....the heat are barely at .500
pat riley isn't going anywhere...he is a hell of a coach.
why would he take a leave of absence in the 1st place? they whipped the mavs....thank god..I despise all texas teams anyway.....glad they got spanked in the finals.

        • Why would Pat Riley take a leave of absence?

          Look at his history?

He stepped down as coach to devote more time to his GM duties. Stan Van Gundy takes over and takes a team that starts out 0-7 to a solid 42-40 playoff team.

Before Van Gundy has a chance continue into his second season, Riley pushes him out and takes over taking a Van Gundy team to the championship.

Riley starts out the 2006-2007 season with a losing record. Shaq goes out with an injury and Riley leaves again.

Ron Rothstein keeps the team in contention, bringing the team up to .500. Shaq comes back from injury after the All-Star break and what do you know.........so does Riley.

Now that Wade is out with injury, a couple of bad losses and you'll see Riley jump ship.

It's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Oh, and I despise teams from Illinois. Just thought I throw that out there. Too bad for "Da" Bears. Thank God. They were pretty much whipped in the Super Bowl by the Colts.

          • OK hoopsters.....the all star game has come and gone....did everybody watch? Beyond Kobe's domination in this 'no defense allowed' format...there were only two major events to see....during the actual game: 1. What's up w/ Sir Charles bestowing a smooch on 100 year old Dick Bavetta? Isiah and Magic was bad enough...this custom shoulda died there.....'nuff said.
            2. During a TV time out, a player was heard telling a teammate...'watch this' ima put a monster D on Kobe'....well, as soon as play resumed...Mr. Bryant went around him so fast....he ended up cross eyed...and then did a monster slam w/ the lane being open enough to drive a semi truck through....yeah, that's defense!!! lol I'm sure Kobe was impressed..
And now the second 1/2 when games start to really matter, and sadly, D Wade goes out w/ what looks like a season ending injury....damnit! as much as I think the Pistons would beat them this year....I hate to see this happen! they are a geriatric ward team....and w/o D Wade....they should start buying playoff tickets now. The East is weak (Detroit is the ONLY team w/ a winning road record...nobody else is even any where near .500) so the Heat may get in the playoffs...but they will last as long as Jack Nicholson's first beer.
The trade deadline has come and gone, and nobody did anything playoff significant. Memo to Cleveland Cavs....what the **** are you thinking? you need help for King James...and do nothing??? do you think towards the end of the little big horn battle, Custer woulda rejected reinforcements? dayuummm.
In the East, I am predicting Detroit and Chicago (I know the BULLS are behind a bit....but they WILL get back towards the top) and with Detroit advancing to the Finals. In the West, we have the best 3 or 4 teams in the league, but only one moves on....It will come down to the positioning, but I see the Spurs beating the MAVS..and Phoenix beating whoever gets there (Lakers??) and then the Suns beating the Spurs....and facing the Pistons....who they will beat in 6 or 7 games....all this is barring anymore major injuries, however, and if Steve Nash goes out...he takes the SUNS w/ him.....
Then we have the sad passing of former Celtic/Sonic/Sun Dennis Johnson...who was one of the absolute best all around guards...could jump out of the gym..and at 6'4" played CENTER in college. This man was nicknamed 'helicopter' when young, and was a first class man to man defender and rebounder. Though Parish/McHale/Bird got most of the attention..this guy was a BIG piece of those 2 Celtic championships. He will be missed.
Lastly, how about Manu Ginobili the other night against the Hawks? he scored 24 straight points!! in a 40 point night....and during his run, the Hawks scored 9!!!! When healthy (and when Duncan provides inside play) Manu is one of the best wing men in the NBA today...and believe me, nobody relishes playing those guys at crunch time.
Stay tuned as we move through the second half, and on to the real season, the playoffs....

              • Don't Let The Suns Go Down On Me Lol

OK Hoopsters time for an update around the league....

                1. Detroit Pistons 105....Phoenix Suns 83.......yes, thats a CORRECT score!!! 22 points!!! and who outplays Steve Nash?? frikkin Flip Sanders!!!! is the moon full tonight or what? lol.....
but check the stats Pistons 45-84 from floor and 8-14 from 3 pt line....Suns 34-67 and 2-15 from 3 pt range....can you say out shot??? and damn playing defense and SLOWING down the game will work against the Suns..you just CANNOT play run and gun w/ them...and rebounds 37-28 Detroit....Is this a preview of the NBA finals??? nahhhh too early....but these are two VERY solid contenders....and what is the Pistons trump card? try looking at their record on the road...23-10.....and nobody else in the East is no where
near even .500.....and only Phoenix and Dallas are better on the road....in the NBA....

                2. Miami playing VERY well w/o DWADE...and Shaq playing MUCH better...but they and he will fade as the season goes on...and they stop playing teams WAY below .500

                3. And whose coming on fast as the season winds down?? why it's none other that the Spurs....and they may very well upset the Dallas/Phoenix seeming lock on the West. I can tell you nobody is looking forward to playing them at crunch time ...

                4. Clyde the glide Drexler on dancing w/ the stars!!! dayuummm he still looks like he could play and get 20 pts a night!!

                5. Dayuum it's sad to see what has become of the Indiana Pacers!!! way under .500 and not even close to being a BAD team...just terrible in every aspect of the game.......

WELL stay tuned....as we are approaching the playoffs when the fun REALLY begins!!!

I see that Kobe got 65 the other day, only 3 other players have multiple 60 point games...Wilt, MJ, Elgin Baylor.

                    HI Hoopsters:
There have been a number of players to score 60+ points in a game...note that Wilt Chamberlain did it 32 frikkin times!!!
and 5 of the top 7 ever including 100 points! and nobody else more than a couple of times.....
PLUS he made it with 10,000 women! no wonder he was called "the big dipper"

                      • Yeah Bill Russell was the winningest player w/ 11 in 13 seasons...and he was a TRUE great...but he also had a LOT of hall of famers around him too. But I used to LOVE his commentary when he was an analyst on TV. Damned FEW know/knew the game like he did, esp. defense and rebounding.
If you look for the greatest player in the history of the game, it just HAS to be Michael Jeffrey Jordan....who won all those titles w/ not very many good players on his teams....ok maybe Pippen, but even he wasn't that great...or Horace Grant....who found out what it's like when somebody actually covers you and the other team isn't quadruple teaming Mike....ditto for John Paxson and Steve Kerr....and all the other BULLS of that era....
I can't think of ANY other championship teams w/o at least 2 or 3 other great players besides their superstar....MJ is the MAN!!!

                        • I know there are a few players who have lots of rings as well, like John Salley...he got his with I think it was Detriot, Chicago, and L.A. But we all know he was riding on the coattails of course...

Jabbar I think got 6...Bucks, and Lakers...he had some good players on his team...Showtime!

But, without a doubt, M.J. is the man...he worked hard to get all those points and wins and trophies...and endorsements.

                            Hey Hoopsters...
There was the Denver Nuggets about to win in Detroit, when with 1.5 seconds to go, and a 3 point lead, they make a turnover right to Rasheed Wallace, who hits a 3/4 court set shot about 75 feet, and off glass to tie the game!!! see this at www.nba.com then Detroit wins in overtime...this was a great game, but the Pistons were w/o Richard Hamilton and Chris Webber out with the flu...
This puts Detroit 3 up on the Cavs for best in the East....and gives them all the momentum....heading in to the final games...
Then 'Sheed claimed that he practices those....yeah, right but if this was a game of 'horse' we all got an H on us after that one!

Mebbe it was like that one game where David Robinson needed 70 points to win the scoring title and he got 73 against the Clippers who when you watched the game, it looked like the Clippers let him score...so Shaq wouldn't get the scoring title that year.
