  • Not gonna happen... They already said that... They don't know who did what or who was involved or wasn't. Yeah, they all knew whether they were involved or not but, nobody's gonna rat on the team they're playing for... JD Davis (now with the Mets) had a great line when this came out; "I batted .198 when I was there... Does that sound like I knew what pitch was coming?"

    • Congrats to Derek Jeter and Larry Walker being voted into the MLB Hall of Fame. Both are deserving players and earned their way in.

Report: MLB considering letting teams pick playoff opponents in dramatic postseason overhaul

If you were just getting used to the wild-card game added to the MLB playoffs in 2012, get ready. An even bigger change could be on the way.

Major League Baseball is “seriously weighing” a radical change to its playoffs that would expand the field to seven teams (three division winners, four wild-card teams) in each league beginning in 2022, according to the New York Post’s Joel Sherman.

The new playoff structure would essentially create a new wild-card round. The division winners with the best record in each league would get a bye for the round, while the other two division winners and the top wild-card team would host a three-game series against the rest of the wild cards.

The juiciest change comes with who faces each team in the new wild-card round. Per Sherman, MLB is planning to produce a Sunday-night selection show at the end of the regular season in which representatives for each team pick their wild-card opponent on live TV.

So, basically, the division winner with the best record gets a bye. The division winner with the second-best record gets first pick of opponents. The remaining division-winner picks their opponent, then the remaining team faces the top wild-card.

Quite a concept, and also apparently a new one to the MLB Players Association, who would need to approve such a change.

Not sure how the vote will go on this.

        • I'm not too crazy about it but I maybe softened a bit watching the talk on MLB network this morning (including from Sherman himself)... They showed a graphic where from last year going back maybe 5 years or whatever it was, only 3 teams with losing records would've made the playoffs under the proposed new format. I don't like MLB trying to become the NBA and I really don't wanna be still watching baseball by Thanksgiving. While the first round bye sounds interesting, again, this isn't the NBA or NFL... Too much rest in baseball makes for rusty teams... Ask the Rockies... I think it was when they had a buncha days off before playing the Phillies and watched them roll into the Series against the Yankees... Seems like just too much...

          • I think if they plan on doing this, they are gonna need a whole bunch of new stadiums that have roofs to keep the snow out.

            • The current playoff setup is fine and they should just leave it alone.

                • The Official Baseball Rules have been amended to require the starting or any relief pitcher to pitch to a minimum of three batters, including the batter then at bat (or any substitute batter), until such batters are put out or reach base, or until the offensive team is put out, unless the substitute pitcher sustains injury or illness which, in the umpire crew chief’s judgment, incapacitates him from further play as a pitcher. The three-batter minimum will become effective in 2020 Spring Training beginning on Thursday, March 12th.

The MLB is trying to speed up the games doing this. If you want to do that, have the pitchers throw only three pitches then.

They want to speed up games and still the ticket prices will increase.

I think will stick to watching little league this year

                    • MLB spring training is stopped and the 2020 season is questionable with the Coronavirus going on.

NCAA March tournament is canceled as well.

I was looking forward to seeing the Astros get plunked every game.
