running what we have put here so far not going to slow anybody down that noticeable. What slows down considerably is : your connection to server-if you can only get a connection from them at
28k then it don't matter what your own personalmodem is, #2- time of day and how many users are online on that server at the time, #3 if you trying to read powwows.com,download 4 songs at once thru Kazaa, and download a file from another site all at the same time. These are what get your speed, as well as whatever your processor speed is.

Kneegrown is probably right on track. Use Ad-Aware and delete any spyware from you computer. You don't need any of it. Also check your start menu under Start, Programs, Startup. There is an active-X program that adds a link there. Let me know what you have there and I will see if I can remember what its name is.
BTW, PowWows.com banners are almost all running Active-X programs under neath them. Try turning your security up to ask if Active-X programs can run and you will be suprised how many times it pops up. Almost every page for me.

The only time a bunch of programs will slow your line up is if they are sucking bandwidth. If they are sucking bandwidth, then turn them off.

Mato you run on a 56k don't you? Well I think you do. But anyways. If you start going and downloading all these different programs and stuff your computers going to stop running like a ****ty 56k and end up like a 28.8 so. First I would remove any unwanted programs or any programs that you don't use for atleast 6 months or so. Maybe burn them to disc or have someone do that and only pop them in and use them when you need or want to use them. As for the antivirus I would see what virus program your using and what version it is many virus programs update their definitions every few weeks to once a month depending on what program it is. After that is all done if you don't already I would start defraging and doing a scan disk atleast once a week if not more depending on how much the comp is being used and knowing at how good you are at surfing you should probably defrag and scan disk atleast every other day. And for the popup think it could of came with some file or program that you may have recently downloaded or uploaded. And since you already have and use a popup blocker I would contact AOL tech and tell them, maybe it is something that came with something they have recently added to their database.

Go to www.downloads.com. Search for Ad-aware. Do not download there however, click the link for the developers site, get the program there, as well as the "Auto Updater" file. Put in same directory, then update it, run it.
Note: If you have Kazaa, opposed to Kazaa lite, do not run ad-aware unless you know kazaa's spyware. Deleting some may cause the program not to run.

I run on AOL... I have an pop up blocker on it and it works for most stuff... all except for that and those little fish, rabbit ones on this site.
I have Opera but it does not pop up on it.

You could try a program like Ad-Ware that sniffs out spy wear and such. It is a free download at sites like ZDnet or Downloads.com.
Pop Up Stopper works well for stopping pop ups, however, sometimes it prevents java pop up windows that you want to open from opening.

Guest repliedNow are you running any other browsers instead of internet explorer, like opera or navigator ? And if you running AOL, oh well, sometimes you get them there sometimes. If you have 1 of these other browsers try going thru 1 of them, except to read emails and see what happens. Can also send you a couple of links if that doesn't help to slow those little popups down.

I'm wondering if it is an IE popup... If I'm not mistaken I just recently updated it.
