With Powwow season and the subsequent webcasts coming fast around the corner it might be a good idea to verify that your computer is up to the task of receiving the webcast streams. Below I have come up with a simple checklist of things that you should do to help prevent software related problems that could keep you from enjoying the broadcast.
- 1. Make sure you are on a high speed or broadband connection, 56kbps dial-up is not sufficient enough for streaming media.
- 2. Keep your operating system (Windows, Mac, Linux...) up to date.
- 3. Make sure you have the latest version of Adobe Flash
Player installed properly. Don't have Flash? Get it here: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ - 4. Check the settings on any security program to ensure that it is not blocking Adobe Flash Player, internet browser, or any of their components from accessing the internet.
- 5. Run a complete virus and malware scan as viruses and such can interrupt or prevent you from viewing the stream.
- 6. Run Disk Clean Up and Disk Derangementer.
- 7. In order for the webcast to function properly you must have JavaScript and cookies enabled in your browser. YOU ALSO MUST HAVE FLASH PLAYER INSTALLED. http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
- 8. Having trouble with sound? In the newer versions of Windows, Vista 7, and 8(beta), there is a redesigned sound mixer built into the OS. To access it you can click on the speaker icon on your task bar and click on "Mixer" below the volume slider. This will open a panel that displays all open programs and the volume levels associated with them. Sometimes a browser will automatically get assigned a lower volume level (usually set to 50%).
