blah, blah, blah................. You don't know me. You challenge me? You say I hide behind a computer barking? TAKE A LOOK IN THE MIRROR!!!! You are doing exactly what you say I am doing. I read your profile, and it says your in the military, the ARMY to be exact, right? So, since your enlisted, that means your doing "something?" What, like us people who don't enlist "AREN'T DOING SOMETHING?" I don't have to prove anything to you, nor do I have to accept your challenge. If you personally knew me, then you would not say such words, SPEAKING LIKE A SNAKE, WITH VENOM SPILLING OUT OF YOUR MOUTH. SHAME ON YOU!!!!!!!!!!! What difference have you made, fighting for a country, who continues to treat us NATIVES like second class citizens? My grandfather enlisted in WW2, and said it was "THE BIGGEST MISTAKE" of his life. Before you go around judging people, get to know them, and see what difference YOU CAN MAKE!

And I see your doing nothing but talk...I don't care if you enlist, I didn't say anything about enlisting, and bringing your Grandfather in this was weak....I think the man can speak for himself, and doesn't need you to speak for him. And your putting down Ndns who served in the military? Good for you! I don't want your support nor do I need your support. And in case you didn't know, making threats against the President could get you a visit from the Secret Service, or FBI. You all talk the talk, but don't walk the walk.

As for doing something for this country, I have done more than you'll ever do. As for you Natives back home, you got it alot easier than others so quit crying....And yes, these folks don't like Ndns either here in the middle east so maybe you should be thankful for the freedom you do have back home. Afterall, I am protecting your right to free speech. Whether you like it or not...

I never threatened anyone!!!! What saying I would risk my life, means I am threatening someone? Don't think so!! If you took it that way, that is your problem, not mine. And about my grandfather, if he could talk for himself, he would, but since he's deceased, he can't, but I can and I will. I didn't put you down for serving in the military. I just asked you a simple question. If people of all races want to serve this country, that's their decision. NOT MINE!!! Just so you know, I had tried to enlist in the COAST GUARD, but being a single parent at the time (6 yrs ago), I was told they didn't accept single parents. Now I'm glad I wasn't accepted. I was meant to do other things, on this earth.
So what that I don't support NATIVES going to war for this country? That's my right, being HUMAN! My opinion and yours are 2 different things. I respect yours, and if you can't respect mine, oh well. I don't let NEGATIVITY stop me, or slow me down. You say you've done more for this country then I have? It don't matter HOW MUCH you've done, it matters WHAT you've done. FREEDOM? What is this FREEDOM you speak of? If we (the NATIVES) in this country had FREEDOM, their would be no RESERVATIONS!! Those places are there, because we weren't wanted on certain pieces of land. My reservation for example, was a prison camp. After the Minnesota outbreak in 1862-1863, my family was brought here, to SOUTH DAKOTA.
From my point of view, maybe you need to do a little bit more research, of how this country came to be. I have been researching my family's past, and it's HORRIBLE! My great, great grandfather THOMAS FAST WALKER, and 2 of his brothers D.K. HOW, and WHITE GHOST, were enlisted as ARMY SCOUTS, and had no choice. If they did not enlist, their families, relatives, and friends, would have been killed. You know what they got, serving this country? $150.00! Wow! That really makes me proud.
So, before you judge me, or think you know what I am doing for this country, sit back and chill.
And since you seem so interested in what I am "supposedly" doing for this country, why don't you ask politely? I have no problem answering questions. In fact, I'm really glad you responded in the way that you did. It just shows me what I'll be up against, when I get things started. AND NO, I'M NOT TALKING ABOUT HURTING ANYONE, OR ANY OF THAT STUPID S***!!!!! I don't have to be violent, to get my point across!
If you know anything about Martin Luther King, Jr., then you would know that he was a "non-violent" activist. His choice of weapon? His VOICE! That's all one needs, right? Well, that's all I need. Ask Russell Means! He's an activist, and he don't need to be violent. Back when A.I.M. was going on, of course, he might have had to stoop down, to use violence, but things are different now. I look up to him, and I will do what I can for the NATIVES of this country, including you. I also don't NEED or WANT your support, but one day, when we get the recognition we deserve and have been waiting for, you will remember me. You will know my name. I don't want to be famous, nor will I want any recognition. All I want is JUSTICE for the NATIVE people of this country. If other races can do positive things for their own, well so can I!

VIOLENCE..... A PERMANENT SOLUTION, TO A TEMPORARY PROBLEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Another thing, do you celebrate NATIVE AMERICAN DAY in your state? I do, but most celebrate COLUMBUS DAY! Don't you think we deserve a month long celebration, just like the AFRICAN AMERICANS? Things like that are what I am trying to change. I don't have to resort to violent ways. After all, I am an adult, and I know what to do to get things changed, like writing letters, or PEACEFUL protests. I'm not dumb, nor am I ignorant.

Just to let you know, be safe over there, do what it is your doing, and get back to your family safe. They need you, more then President Bush needs you!!!!!!

Yeah, I'm cool with what you got to say...I'm just saying is peeps are talking and no one is doing anything. The world we live in isn't perfect. It never was in the first place. If it was perfect, I would be out of a job and I'd be cool with that. But its not, and our Gov. isn't the best, but it what we have and its alot better than others I've seen in my travels in this world. Blaming Bush, isn't solving much...This is America and everyone has to do their part. This isn't welfare, its LIFE. I don't expect any hand outs, I earn my pay and way thru life by hard work. People have to get of their butts and do something, and quit waiting for "someone else to solve the problem" to do it for them...thats all I got to say. Thanks for reading.

                      HI
I read this entire thread and was hopeful and alarmed. I am glad to know people are paying attention, and talking to each other. It was concerning that some where taking out their anger at life on each other. Respect must be given, to be earned.
I grew up in DC, my white dad was a newspaper man- a correspondant. No one in DC gives Natives any credit- because all we do is fight among ourselves. Tribe to Tribe, full to mix, city to rez. They have learned all they have to do is set us against each other and they can walk away with what they wanted while we are fighting. I sat in a classroom in high school (government i think, long time ago!)and had a teacher inform the entire class that "real indians do not exsist anymore".
To gain power for the future we have to learn to unite. When I was at IAIA, I tried to share some of the things I learned growing up in DC, a warning of how we are not seen by the "dominant culture". All I heard was that I was a mix- so shut up. How many people over the years have had ideas that could have helped us- that we told to shut up?
Talk about your ideas, then maybe you can get others to help make them happen. And listen, someone could see a weakness in your plan- and together you could fix it.

I agree, we mixed have some insights from living in different areas that could be of some help. While in the Marines I was stationed in DC. The various cultures there seem to stick together no matter what their blood level. One thing that helps them is a common language, maybe that's our problem. Though we're Native, we have so many different languages. Culture and beliefs are closely related, but the common bond of language isn't there between the various tribes. There's also seems to be separation from East Coast, West Coast, and Midwest. East Coast have more mixed bloods, less rez's, so we kinda get left out of the Native equation. If we were able to unite, we could be a strong force.

Well, I'm all about uniting, for great causes, but I can't be the only person. If we want things to change, for the better, then the time is now! There is no need for violence, or negativity, but we need to get together, and show that we are SERIOUS!
I heard that people are going to BEAR BUTTE this summer, and they will be protesting.
It will going on during the Sturgis Rally, and even though I enjoy the rally itself, I am going to protest. I want to honor my ancestors, and this just one small step, I am taking.
If you are willing to participate, PM me, and I will give you details.

***PLEASE DON'T SEE THIS AS A NEGATIVE THING TO SUPPORT.***

For the record here, those people serving on active duty in the U.S. Military are not ALLOWED to run for public office since they are considered as filling a public office already. I personally don't care to hear those serving in the miiltary bashed when they are doing their jobs and defending our country's freedoms. Men and women serving in the U.S. Miltary today are VOLUNTEERS, they were not drafted and it is their choice to defend our county and our right to vote for any elected official we wish too. Don't bash them! People MAKE THEIR OWN CHOICES on if they vote or not, if they help their community ect.. Just do your part in YOUR COMMUNITY and encourage others to do the same.
Oh and before anyone ask, I'm 45, my dad served in WW2 AND Korea, my brother is listed MIA in Nam and I vote and I volunteer in my community. Oh and just in case thats not good enough, most importantly, I'm a ARMY mom and ARMY mother-in-law, both of which have recently returned from Iraq.
Courage is just fear that has said it's prayers.
