  • President Bush just signed a fantaastic law!

This mornig President Bush signed a law forbidding protesters at Military funerals! Guess he got tired of waiting for all the states to do it on their own. Now the police can arrest these jerks and use FEDERAL CHARGES against them!
Courage is just fear that has said it's prayers.

I never understood the rationale behind Rev. Phelps protesting at military funerals to begin with.

It doesn't make sense that he'd try to tarnish the memory of those who died serving, when he says his beef is with the government. It always seemed to me that he was exploiting the sacrifice of others and protesting at the funerals because he doesn't have the courage, personal or of his convictions, to protest to the government itself.

If anything, all he has done is damaged his cause, because people are more than disgusted by his methods. Even if they agree with his position, very few of them see any viable connection to the services honouring the fallen.

He says that the new law violates his constitutional rights to freedom of speech. He should remember that those whose memory he is assailing died protecting that freedom to begin with. If he objects so strongly to them that he will continue his acts, he forfeits the moral right to exercise the freedom they died to maintain. He can't have it both ways.

It really bothers me that this so called Rev. is useing his pulpit to push this issue. I got a e-mail not long ago from a friend in a small town in Delaware, her's what she had to say.

those protestors came to Seaford for the
funeral of Cpl. Cory Palmer USMC. We had 635 bikers,
plus hundreds of people waving American flags of all
sizes, plus hundreds of friends and community
residents to support the Palmer family in their grief.
It made me proud to live in a small community in
      America...

The best thing any of us could do is to completely
ignore the protestors.... turn your backs on them...
they are only appearing where there is a high profile
funeral... so they can get on the evening news....

The only problem with ingnoring them is that then they will contuine to do this. I'm proud of our President for standing up and saying enough is enough, contuine and you WILL go to Jail! Now the whole country will see just how much backbone this Rev. and his foolish followers really have when they have to risk time in jail. To bad it can't be a jail in Iraq, maybe then they could get an idea of what real scarifice is.

When someone does something this reprehensible and no-one speaks up, it usually gets twisted into being some "silent approval".

Of course, it's a catch-22 situation - speaking out against it is an instant media magnet, they thrive on conflict, giving this "group" a far wider audience than they deserve.

What irritates me the most is this "man of the cloth", a "man of God", feels that it is perfectly acceptable for him to disturb the rest of those who died to further his own political views. You would think that a holy man would respect the dead.

I have the feeling that when his turn comes to face the Creator, there's going to be some choice comments made.

Honestly, it should be for any funeral. Anyone who dishonors the dead should have their head examined.

This was for only at National cemeteries. Not funerals done at little hometowns.

These people want attention, plus small town people are likely to kick their @sses if they mess with a home town persons funeral. But MAYBE this law will make them reconsider what they are doing.

Bush finally did something good. Unfortunately it was probably mostly for HIS image. But it was good at least.

We have to watch out because he cant run for another term so he has to get all his crap done now.

Ummmm there's this group of people in Washington DC who make laws....they call them 'Congress' and it has 2 houses, the house of representatives, and the senate. THEY are the ONLY ones who can make laws...not the president. This bill which was signed, was originated by a representative from Michigan...
and YES it is a good law....people should be ashamed of harrassing the relatives of the dead..or dishonoring the dead...REGARDLESS of their beliefs...
