Staff Sgt. Michael Baker’s strategy to make his deployment pass swiftly: set all the fuel records he can.
Two months into his four-month tour at Bagram Air Field, Afghanistan, the fuels specialist has broken three records — most gallons pumped in one week, most gallons pumped in one month and fastest to pump 1 million gallons.
“It helps the days go by quicker if I am working hard,” Baker, who deployed from Minot Air Force Base, N.D., with 455th Expeditionary Logistics Readiness Squadron, said in an Air Force news release.
Baker pumped 610,487 gallons of fuel in October, breaking the previous monthly record by 73,737 gallons. It took him just 58 days to hit 1 million gallons Nov. 14, three days faster than the previous record holder.
He expects to set another record before he leaves: “The most pumped in a rotation is 1.6 million — I should have that next month,” he said.
