Mexicans in Powwows

How do you guys feel about “Mexicans” dancing and/or singing In Powwows? Do you guys feel it is wrong since it is not their tradition or do you see it as just another native powwowing?

In my mind I have to ask : What is your definition of "Mexican" ? Who gets to decide who is native and who is Spanish , because before the Spanish came , those were tribal peoples.(and still are !) And the other question would be : Where do you draw that line as to who can and who cannot powwow ? I have seen "non"native people ,all the way to full bloods dance , compete , hang out with friends at powwows , so who has that right to say who can or cannot powwow ? I think as long as the proper respect is shown , I don't have an issue ! Just my opinion.....

mixed feelings......powwows ARE social

if they come to observe and eat frybread and join round dance or something who care whether they messikin or otherwise

if they come crashing in with that mexika movmiento BS and disrespecting vets and telling people how northern natives (they mean north of border) are all sellouts and complain how we fail to recognize them and demand we share our cultures with them by right of brown skin well then eff them.......

but i think that is just a southwest thing im not sure if that stuff happens outside southwest

even at that it doesnt happen large scale

and rarely in person either......they usually attend then go home and attack online

Hmmm, every time I’ve gone with my wife and kids we feel at home and are welcomed with open arms. It’s all the same man, north or south doesn’t matter we’re all native people and it is our culture or “tradition”.

True lol but I’ve seen many “Mexican” singers and dancers at powwows here in Cali and even Arizona and Colorado who are treated no differently than any other natives. It seems like as long as they aren’t spewing all kinds of non sense then it isn’t an issue🤷🏽♂️.
