Hi. I just joined this site tonight after being referred to it by the owner of a Native American group I am a member of on Facebook. I told the group about an encounter I had as a small child that involved Native American's and one of the things the owner suggested is that I attend a Powwow this year if possible. I looked at the calendar, however I just moved to Kingman, AZ last month, so I am really not sure how close any of the scheduled Powwows are to me. Also, I am unable to drive due to having Epilepsy, and I really don't think my roommate would be willing to drive me very far to attend a Powwow. So I was wondering if there is anyone who is close to Kingman who will be attending any of the upcoming Powwows who would be interested in talking, and getting acquainted, and maybe I would be able to join you. I went to a Powwow when I was like 12 and I am almost 31 now. However, my memories about it are very blurry. I look forward to hearing from others on here. Thanks.

Welcome to Powwows. I am surprise that you have not read the newspapers on the events for powwows. You just have to keep an eye out for events in your newspapers. That is the only connection. Also you might be able to hear about the powwow on the radio. I am deaf so I don't need radio. But I do look out for my powwows here on the island and elsewhere by reading the newspapers. Now that you are here on Powwows.com, you might check on many different sites in Arizona. They should have quite a few or more powwows for the Spring, Summer and Fall. So I hope you have fun reading and posting the threads here. See you around here on the forum.

Thanks for the info. Maybe I will find a way to get to the one if Peach Springs. I know my roommate won't take me, but maybe by then I will have made some more friends and some of them will be willing to go.

by PawneeManI was real disappointed on Saturday night when I went to the AIA Orlando Powwow. I am Native American and I felt so out of place and uncomfortable at a powwow. I am sorry but 98% of the so called natives were nothing but white people dressed in native clothing trying to act native. One vendor had so...

I attended my first pow-wow today and I thoroughly enjoyed it. However, I really felt like an outsider. I am 1/4th native blood but know absolutely nothing about my ancestry other than a last name and a tribe (remember, it wasn't cool to be NDN back in those days!) I really want to learn more about...

I was wondering if there are any of you who are in the military and are still able to go to all the powwows that you want to attend. I've been in the military now for a little over 2 years and i find it hard to go to powwows that are out of state. The mentality around here is, "Country first...

by jcrinnzHi there,
I am from New Zealand and am hoping to visit the USA next year and am wondering if non-Native people are welcome to attend Powwows? Also, if they are welcome, which of the many hundred powwows might you recommend? Is there a list of just the largest gatherings?
Many thanks in...-
