    Dream Head Staff

I am helping to determine the head staff for a major contest powwow that is coming up this summer.

I have already submitted my head staff recommendations.

If you were putting a "dream head staff" together, who would be on it. (I need to determine if my head staff recommendations are alligned to a popular choice of pws.com readers).

    Choose from the following:

Master of Ceremonies (1 southern, 1 northern, 1 Canadian)
Host Drums (1 southern, 1 northern, 1 Canadian)
    Head Dancers (male and female)
Arena Directors (1 northern and 1 southern)
Head Dance Judges (1 northern and 1 southern)
Head Drum Judge (1 judge familiar with both N and S singing)
    Color Guard (1)

The criteria for making my recommendations include: representation from North America's diverse powwow circuits, people who are actively pursuing the powwow circuit and finally powwow people who will draw other powwow people.

Using this criteria, who would you choose for your DREAM HEAD STAFF?

    Just a comment

WhoMe...Just wanted to commend you for recognizing the knowledgable people here on pws.com.

Why must I feel like that..why must I chase the cat?

      Joe's Dad,

I believe in powwows.com and have learned so much from the posts of the readership.

Many people have criticisms about this website and have said it is made up of white people and others not in touch with reality/real powwows.

This is not true. I stand by this.

All the major singing groups in North America have a relative or member of the drum who is in contact with pws.com. Also many of the major contest winners and members of powwow commitees also subscribe to powwows.com.

I value "everyone's opinion" because much of it comes from both real powwow people AND knowledgible individuals of ceremonial and powwow ways.

      __

Now back to the subject at hand....

      Dream Head Staff anyone?

        It was only a dream.....

WhoMe, I came up with my own lil dream list but it's mostly Northern, because I don't know a lot of Southern names, besides dancers...
        and since I'm only dreaming......

        Master of Ceremonies
Dale OldHorn, Thomas Morning Owl (both are Northern) Wallace Coffey for Southern, Eric Tootoosis for Canadian

        Host Drums
        S. Bad Medicine; N. Eyabay; Canadian - Stoney Park

        Head Dancers
        Karen Pheasant and Frank Mckay

        Arena Directors
        N. Hodge Slickpoo as WhipMan; and not sure about Southern??

        Head Dance Judges
        N. Mike Dashner; S. Michael Roberts

        Head Drum Judge
        N. Ponchie Plain; S. Dennis Zotigh :)

        Color Guard
Hard to pick just one but Northwest Indian Veteran's Association comes to mind.

I have a thought about a dream team so, how about this.

HeadMan: Francis Sweatwater or our own Osagesooner.
Headlady: Claudia Spicer or Lori Morgan.
Host drum: Cozad family drum or Southern thunder. A headsinger could be Sonny, Albert, Waters Jr or Bruce Katakati(sp?)
MC: Terry Adams or Creighton(SP?) Moore
AD: Warren Hawk or Ed RedEagle Jr.
Headdrum Judge: George Vallier or our own Zotigh.
Head dance Judge: Charlie Chibitty or the late Woogie ( you said dream team)
Color Guard: Soooo many to choose from.

This is a one sided opinion, I guess I don't get out enough.

Boy Whome it is hard to pick a dream staff. There are so many good dancers and singers out there, but I have given it some thought and heres a list for ya.

Head Dancer. Dwight WhiteBuffalo, or Ralph Haymond for southern. Northern- Jonathan WindyBoy or Jim RedEagle(awsome tradish dancer)
Head Ladys- Southern- Carrie meyers or Tookie Hamilton Northern- Gracie Hermanyhorses

AD's Berwin Moses, or Tony KillsCrow,
MC- Dale OldHorn, Archie Mason, Terry Adams, Dean Whitebreast
Drums- Southern- SizzarTail, Souther Thunder, Cozads, Yellowhammer.

Northern Battle River, Red Bull, Black Stone, Mandaree.

Not sure about Judges or colors guards, but hope what I listed helps ya out Whome.
If I do not know the answer someone else will!!!!
Also forgive me, this system does not have a spell check so forgive the bad spelling

              Thanks everybody!

I have recommended a lot of people mentioned so far (minus Woogie). I am not a part of the head staff nor did I recommend myself.

I did make recommendations from the following states and provinces (they were accepted):

California, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Florida, Minnesota, Montana, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Ontario.

My original list included 4 choices in each category and included representatives from 21 states and 4 provinces.

              * I have also built in a possible reception room for powwows.com members and a live webcast/simulcast on pws.com.

              __

Anybody else wanna' list their dream head staff?

Six of your selections are on my recommendation list that were selected.

I submitted your drum as one of the 4 choices to invite in the northern category. Unfortunately, another drum was chosen.

There is alot of talent out there....I've worked with several of the people I recommended and I think that's a key to making your Powwow run smoothly....Several people have the ability to take on responsibilities, but are either shy to come forward, or satisfied with participating in another capacity at a Powwow. I think it's cool to see people by chance get involved with something. I.E. I know of a few announcers who just happened in to that role. They turned out to be really good and have made a life of it. I like to see the young people get involved in key roles as well....I'll tell you what though it's alot of workto be on Head Staff, well if your gonna work......I have some of those stories also.....
