Does anybody know why some chicken dancers carry:

    A rattle?

    A mirror?

    A tomahawk?

    A hoop?

An animal skin on their forearm?

    A fan?

    A coop-stick?

    A grudge (*L j/k)
Powwows will continue to evolve in many directions. It is inevitable.

Rattles and Pelts Represent which society they belong to, the hoop is also a representation, alot of dancers these days really don't know the true meaning of stuff they just pick it up and dance. i noticed alot of this on the east coast......recently!

yep he's right, chicken dancers represent their clans with what they wear and carry. these traditions are not so known much where the dance is relatively new.

but thats also right chicken dancers need to make themselves attractive with how they look dance and what they use. Mirrors are also popular but theres threads about that you can read the archives for that.

IT'S ABOUT THE CHICKS- as for weapons chicken dancers battle with other chickens so they must be ready to fight for a mate or defend themselves. you gotta see that happen its so awsome especially when they really attack each other.

As for the grudge it's either when they got beat

or their chick went for the other guy.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to decorate a fan. I have noticed some pictures of fans that have thread and feather work done on them. I am wanting to learn how to decorate my own fan. If anyone could give me some pointers I would really appreciate it. Thanks a bunch- Look forward to hearing...

Hello, I need help or instructions with how to create this "stacked" method of threadwork on fan sticks. I've done threadwork before but I've yet to figure out this method. I've seen examples where the threadwork looks like thick stacks of discs on top of each other. some other examples almost...

                  by WhoMe
Do you have to have the right to wear an animal skin around the forearm if you are a Chicken Dancer?

Does it mean something or is it just a decoration?

i've seen some dancers holding sweetgrass braids tied into circles when they dance. does this have any specific significance? what is everyone's opinion on this?
