I love the light green/red contrast of his outfit.

We've got a few Chicken guys down here, but not many. I see the "powwow chicken" guys that hit the big powwows in this area, heard there names from time to time, but need to work on my "eye" for chicken dancing. Help me with this, from what I've seen, there are two types

          1) guys who imitate prairie chickens in the majority of their movements

          2) guys who don't imitate prairie chickens

-both types look at times between a cross between a traditional dancer and a grass dancer, or maybe its just the one's I see around these parts.

Most powwows are starting to have chicken as a regular category, last year at Hinckley it was still a special, and it was a Lower Sioux at Thanksgiving. I'll dig through my pics from Manito-ahbee and post some for you guys to stear me towards the good stuff.

                Sheldon Scalplock ennit?

Yea in Minnesota we got a lot of grassers just throwing on a bustle and hopping in on the chicken specials, and most of the time end up beating out the actual chickens.

I'm gonna give it a go sometime this summer and try it, been beading a floral chicken set.

That's what I'm talking about. we've got guys in this area, that go out there in stuff borrowed from 7 different people, or not even having what resembles a complete outfit, and their winning money. Now I know its about the money, BUT these guys start to think they are chicken dancers. How are local judges who didn't grow up with this tradition supposed to know? Thats the problem, we're creating a "powwow chicken" tht is just semi-famous grass dancers trying to make more money.
