  • Who gets the point?

A guy in fully beaded outfit and great set of bustles or the guy with a mediocre outfit and matching bustles? IF! The guy with the superb out fit poorly danced and the guy with the not so good outfit danced very well. The point goes to who? Would you judge by how their outfit looks or by how they danced. I know outfits count for something, and a person with a great outfit should get the points right?

    What's your point?
Powwows will continue to evolve in many directions. It is inevitable.

Hard call. I guess it would all come down to how the two behaved. That's how we settled it in NV. the competitors were watched throughout the day by the committee, and their behavior outside the arena was added in with how they danced, originality, how their outfit looked, etc. In a case like this , I would be curious as to the disparity between quality of dancing, and quality of gear, but would prolly have to judge by demeanor and behavior. Has this sort of thing actually happened? it must be pretty rare.

I'd judge on dancing and behavior only, and that includes the sort of respect the dancer has for the dance and others around him. Many times the best and most traditional dancers I've seen do not have the kind of money to be traveling on the powwow circuit or to be buying the type of matched items it sometimes takes to compete at the bigger powwows. I love the person who can sit and make their outfit out of items that are unusual and different and best represent who that person is.

            points

how i would score would be based on: dance, regalia, and behavior. if a dancer was lacking in one area, how good were the other things.

I would have to say that the one with the heart to dance so well the looks can follow at any time. I would have to look at behavior and how he/she may be with the other competitors. Then i would judge from that.
