  • Winter Gourd Dance

There will be a winter Gourd Dance this weekend Jan. 26th in Miami OK at the Ottawa-Peoria building just west of the Buffalo Run Casino. There will be a Stomp dance after dinner.

This is a good dance to break the winter blues. Hope to be able to visit with you all. See you all this weekend.

Are ther any other winter dances coming up?

On Feb. 2nd, there is a dance happening in west Tulsa at Saint Catherine School. Starts at 2:00pm with gourd dance, supper at 5:00, war dancing at 6:00. This is a singing and dancing deal just to get together and enjoy. No parade in, no specials, no contests so no pressure. Maybe even some 49in'. Head singer is Joe Deerinwater, head lady is Stacia Mouse, head gourd dancer is Adam Proctor, the mc is John Arkekeeta, and head man dancer is Ruben "Bat" Deroin. Again this is just to get together and enjoy some dancing and singing and fellowship with our friends. And it's Free.

      Hey Cherosage!

I would like to go to Miami, but we are already committed to taking our JOM kids to the Operation Eagle powwow in Dewey, OK on January 26th. The kids will compete in the afternoon followed by dinner and stomp dancing that night. I heard some good leaders will be there.

March 1st - Ottawa/Peoria building in Miami, OK. The Peoria will be having a stomp dance that night after their Annual General Council meeting.

March 8th - Annual Benefit Stomp Dance for Polecat Ceremonial Grounds - Creek Indian Community center in Glenpool, OK. Always a good dance. Not that I'm biased or anything.

Yuchgeha, sorry we won't get to visit this weekend. Should be some good dancing and stomps.

I would also, like to invite you all to come to Kansas City Kansas Community College on Feb. 16th. We can gourd dance together and help support my nephew as the Headman.

Looks like Feb 2nd is a busy day, there's also one the same day in Tahlequah at Sequoyah High to benefit the H.O.P.E. group there.

                                It's like sour to sweet.

Gourd dance is open to all and God help the dolt who ever makes a contest category of Gourd Dance.

I'm not a fan of 'contest' pow-wows. I understand that they are out there. But, when I see our dance part of them, it does not seem right....
