  • Thank you to a fine Gentleman

Josiah, Thank you for allowing me to dance with you in Quapaw. Sorry I couldn't help you Sat. afternoon. It just didn't work out to start at noon, plus I wasn't feelin well- heat maybe.

I am honored to finally meet in person. You are a fine Gentleman and Gourd Dancer. You represented the Committee well.

    Again, Thanks- Wa-Donk and A-Ho.

    Your making me blush...
    LOL

I very much enjoy Gourd dancing and one of the things that makes it so special for me is the good folks I get to meet where-ever we go...

This is a very nice thread. I'm glad that you started it Cherosage.

Josiah is very nice and helpful to many and deserves the credit for all he does.

I am so glad they put us in the AC for the afternoon cause they did not have shade for the drum.
We finished the session outside and it was hot!

I'll say. It was like Sahara hot, only with humidity too. And who's idea was it to put that big hill in there? I was parked outside with the other 'taters and man, I did that hill at the arena twice on Sat. 'bout killed my fat a$$.

But back to the topic at hand, I concur Josiah is a darned nice guy. He's taken me under his wing for two years now and I am very appreciative of that!

Cherosage, sorry we didn't get to meet. But I wasn't about to do that hill again! :-)

Got a question for the group. I had a little discussion among a friend of mine regarding Gourd Dancing. I have always helped my dad in his Fry Bread booth and thus never really danced any, just mainly two steps and things like that, but nothing serious. Well, my question is this: I am not a veteran...

to follow the drum or the head gourd dancer
                      by streamhawk
I've had this situation happen a couple of times, and would like opinions from you. Some of you may not have a head gourd dancer where you dance, but alot of dances do. So you're sitting down, waiting for the drum to ask you to stand up and dance, that time comes, the head gourd dancer doesn't get up...

Last year I was honored to be allowed to gourd dance in MD at a powwow, or was it VA... (Hmm..) anyway, is it inappropriate to stand inside the east gate and dance if I wasn't asked? I was at a powwow recently and they were gourd dancing and spirit just slammed me to dance, I had to control myself and...

I was just introduced to the Gourd Dance. Unfortunately, I have many questions...Where did the dance orginate, what do you wear and so forth...not that the main description on the powwows.com site isn't helpful, I would just like more information...

                      firefighters and Gourd Dancing?
                      by danielcwinn
Im just woundering. I know the Gourd Dance is for honoring militay, warriors, and Vets for the most part. I am not an ex-military but a disabled firefighter and medic. I would most desire to be able to gourd dance with our warriors. Would it be appropriate for me to dance with them. I dont want to go...
