Those scarves filled with sage, cedar or other aromatics that our wives/sweethearts pin to our Gourd Dance bandoliers. They show we are 'taken'. A way for women folk to put an 'off limits' sign on us.
I see some very young men wearing the perfume scarf at gourd dance. Very young men.
Do men folk today know why they wear the perfume bundle? Or is it something folks now wear becuase they just saw it?
I'm married to a non-native, and many years ago when my aunt saw me dancing without a perfume bundle she made one for me to wear to make sure my honour was kept. I love her for that, and wear her surrogate bundle even to this day.
Not sure what the perfume bundle means today. What does it mean today?
