Dance Bustle

Here are some ideas:

First, yeah, I know, I haven't posted in a long time - but I've been looking for something I want to comment on.

Concerns with seeing your belt:

A: Wear a vest - This will cover most of it.

B: Wear a breastplate - This will cover the rest of it.

C: If you don't want to wear a vest, and you feel a breastplate isn't the answer, there is one more altnerative, this one is a little more harsh, but its good for hiding things. Sew a 2-3" hole in the center of the back of your shirt, and buckle the belt under your shirt, very hard to get dressed or undressed this way, but it will indeed hide the belt.

If your worried about competing with your belt showing, don't - Instead put some mirrors on it, or hang some additional fringe from it. I know some guys who actually tie bandannas to their belts, personally I feel this looks hobbish, but, its your own personal style. - If its for competition, judges know that the bustle is held up by a belt.

There is 1 more options I didn't think about right away - Alot of tradish dancers will use a 4" - 5" belt decorated with mirrors, or metalwork (or even beaded) - If you can get your hands on one of these or make one, the slot left in the rear is perfect for sliding your belt through, then just buckle it in the front. I personally tie my 5" belt in the front, but thats because the majority of the time I go without my bustle (pretty big) and my breastplate/vest/necktie cover up everythign I don't want people to see.

Swing and sway: (in a bustle)
If your bustle is bouncing off your *** (even if you have a small butt, it can happen) You need to be told sooner rather than later, you don't wear a bustle on your hips, its not supposed to look like feathers coming out of your ***... Its worn in the small of your back, this small adjustment will keep it from 'bouncing'.

If its just bouncing because its loose, there are several people out there that will help you construct a bustle if you ask them properly and offer the proper gifts (like a nice car, bmw preferred, even a 2002 will work) but seriously, ask for help, they'll help.

Hmm I think that would work.. But I think It may hurt after A while =) But great idea =) if I wanted a perma Bustle =).. Dont know if stores would like me coming in there with feathers.. or going into restraunts could you imagine.. LOl people eating and feathers and horse hair getting in there meals LOL...

my assiniboine friend has a bustle board with heavy gauge wire bent so that it only hooks onto his belt....like a cell phone holder on your belt.

but instead of one clip it has 2 large wire "clips." the ends of the wire that slide over the belt are long so they act as stabilizers-pushing against his body.

he's a well known dancer and his bustle doesnt move around alot. it also provides quick removal when he wants to sit down. he's a big dude(6'5") and he has a heavy leather belt to go along with it. i dont have a photo or a product spec sheet to add so good luck. lmao.

If you really want your bustle not move around, when you dance.... try Gorilla Glue. Apply it directly on your lower back in a 5-inch square and I promise your bustle problem will be behind you!

Hi everyone, I sort of need some help with my dance bustle.. Sort of keeping it on me and secure.. I have tried many things but I am wondering what everyone is using.. I have tried shoe lace its nice cause its hide able.. but not so nice in the idea of keeping the bustle secure.. I am using a belt but it is more the lines of sort of hard to hide.. I was thinking about beading the belt.. But My friends say when I dance they say my bustle seems to move around still with the belt... Maybe its not tight enough.. But i was wondering if this is right or what people are using..

Thank you. I moved my belt on my bustle and made it a different way and it seems to help alot But thank you for sharing with me and your help.. Thank you..

When I first started wearing a Omaha Dance type feather bustle, I used a 4 inch wide strip of a wool blanket that was threaded through the back of the bustle and tied around my waist like a bathrobe belt, with the two ends hanging down in front to about mid-thigh. Then later, I replaced the wool blanket belt with a finger-woven wool sash, and tied it in front in a similar manner.
