  • What's up with Terry F.

I have been reading the pow wow posts and have noticed that Terry Fiddler has been placing low this past summer and fall. What is up with that? He is one, practically, the best traditional dancers of all time. He dances intertribals and contests like they are the same.
Maybe it's just my opinion, but "Bugs" should be the top three no matter where or what. LOL

I think it is all in the judges. You can be dancing your best but it's just the judges. Plus, there are no teen dancers coming up every year and they are tough dancer, too.
Everyone has their time and new talent is moving up all the time. How old is he anyways, is it time for golden age yet. LOL

Sorry, that was supposed to say "new" teen dancers not "no" teen dancers. Forgive me, OU is playing OSU right now and I got distracted by a turnover by OSU. "Go Sooners"!!!!

          Terry F.

Well since terry is traveling the SouthWestern pow-wow trail. I seen him a couple of times. He can't dance for shyt. Terry won at every pow-wow i with too even thought there were dancers that danced better then him. ON one song he over stepped but he still place. I think that Terry is use to haveing freinds as his judges. this past weekend we saw some of the younger guy place because it was the judges were beening fair and not picking one guy. thats my two cents on Terry F.

I saw Terry all summer and I respect his style of dancing. He is a real Sioux traditional dancer, in his beadwork, regalia and the style he dances. He is knowledgeable of the songs and the way you are supposed to dance to them. I have seen some pretty pitiful double beat dancing this summer as well as duck and dive disasters. But Terry always, always knows his style and dances it with excellence. He is who he is because he is a good dancer. Period. He dances his own style, from his own tribe and can dance it all his life and still be the best.
Terry has my vote, even if he is kind of old.LOL

jcurley 17: Get used to seeing him winning as it will continue for the rest of his life as he is dancing. Yes Terry is a champion dancer and has been for a long time. He is also very respected in the powwow circuit. Please don't be putting down a brother just cuz he's a good dancer and wins. Show some love! :Angel2

Terry Fiddler is the "CHAMPION". If you don't like it, keep it to yourself. He is the best darn traditional dancer I ever seen. Like they said he dances like he competing in every song, contest/intertribals alike. He's well respected in our part of the country.

                    What's up with Terry F.

Saw him dancing at the Heart Butte Society Celebration in August. Looked like he was just fine to me.

Terry's Feathers are beautiful man, he's got dem spinners spinning all the time ( like they are SUPPOSED to), and he got that bustle bustling big time; he's very respectful and knows his tribes customs and sticks to it.

Judges are key, I seen some powwows where the judges would ask, "What do I look for?" Sheesh the AD must have it tough to pick tourists and pure spectators - all of whom go for the "busiest, brighest" dancers.
                      ...jus put on Mandareeeee....

jcurley17.....traditional is not a NAVAJO thing. So keep this in mind!
Terry is very well thought of everyplace I've ever gone to and he dances his own tribal style and doesn't have a bunch of unnecessary junk on....such as...HUGE bustles, SHOULDER FEATHERS...VISORS..and anything else you can think of. He is simple and neat and carries himself with dignity!!! And knowledge of his people. In order to judge other tribe's dress and ways...one must know his own tribal dress and ways. If you were truly traditional ...you would NOT put down another brother!! AHO

jcurley17...... get the jest? Terry is the real deal. He dances from the heart, to EVERY song! I don't know if you had the opportunity to listen to him a couple of years back at Morongo when he gave a narrative of traditional vs. contemporary northern traditional dancing. It was worth the listen. So, just kick it and try to learn a little something from him. Like humbleness.....

what is your idea of old school or traditional. I'm going to hold my thoughts about this one. after a while i say what my feelings are. but for now i want to know what all of you have been "taught"? what is expected of you? do young people in your area still listen to your elders? If they...

Okay this may spark some fires. I have gone to many powwows and it seems that there are so many different versions of the old style jingle dress dance. Why is there even competitions for it if it is taken into different contexts now. It seems that there is no one story anymore. so far what everyone...

how do you feel about registering up a category? like an 8 yr old that can jam registers in teens, or a 16 yr old that tears it up registers in womens. how do you feel?
