    Hi guys first i wanted to say thank you to all fan makers.my question is how do I make the designs? What do I need? I'm interested in making fans and plume and side drop feather sets.

        First, practice on some junk feathers. Second, read this:

        Florette work


        They will teach you how to do stuff like the attached fan.

          Basic trimmed designs, like steps are easy. You cut the shape and then use the same technique as described above.

          A lot of the designs just exploit the natural shape and color of the feather. The black and white are tips of Lady Ameherst coverlet feathers. The dark red lines are Reeves crest feathers.

              Yes, but the directions are still there and they're very good. This is more than I had when I started :) You just need to play around a bit.

                OK need a little help here. I'm making 2 fans in the next week or so and have a few queestions.
                The first fan I'm making is a turkey wing fan. Is there a better way to make the handle than to buy that block of wood from crazy crow?? And how does everyone attach the handle to their wing??...

                how do you make a drop fan or loose fan like this one julius is using in the video. I want one really bad but need instructions on how to make one if you could send me some directions it would be greatly appreciated

                Also in this thread can someone make tutorials on how to make: flat fan, wing fan, drop fan,tail fan etc...? this would be a big help to those who use fans...

                I hope one of these days to make a tail fan fir a men's tradish. the new contemporary fans are extended with dowels and fixed into a small handle. a lot have featherwork done on em. so how are they put together in the handle so goot.
