Trust me, this has been a thread many many many times before Northerndngurl, if you go threw the arcives you will find them all. But since this subject has not been coverd in a while I will leave the thread open and see what the newer members have to say.If I do not know the answer someone else will!!!!
Also forgive me, this system does not have a spell check so forgive the bad spelling

To play into this topic again, I would have to say if you want to see smooth go to an Ilonshka and eat your heart out.
I also have had the priviledge To dance with two very smooth Comanche men Charlie and Woojee(sp?). These Gentlemen must be two of the all time greats. I danced with other greats such as Johnny Hughes, Francis Sweetwater, George Allen, Larry Cozad and many others. Most all Straights are great.Last edited by CHEROSAGE; 06-12-2003, 01:35 AM.BOB

Like you said the newer members might want to add and new dancers appear every year, so its prolly different every year. I'm new here myself and didnt even know about archives! Thanks.

Well, define smooth.....I personally like the way Jason Lightfoot, Ralph Hammond, and old school dancers who dance that style.
I also like to see Lewis, Terry Tsotigh, and Juaquin Hamilton dance. I like to see Ronnie Dee when he is in his zone and he is awesome.
My dad won the Newman Littlewalker trophy four times at Ponca Pow Wow, and retired from that arena as tradition required. Those days, there was no spinning around or backtracking, only STRAIGHT dancing. Now there is competition dancing, and that is more flashier, fancier, etc.
I like both styles. I enjoy straight dancing in any form. It is a beautiful dance. I have a nephew who belongs to the Pawhuska district, and I love their ceremonials.
Keep it up!!!!!!!!!!

I'm prejudice, but Earl and Michael Plumley ROCK THE HOUSE.......they are old school, 100%, all day, everyday!
Not flashy, or covered with beadwork --- just getting down and jammin, if the song is right and Michael is way down low....can bring tears to my eyes! They both dance from the heart and for those that no longer can!!!!!!!!!

For smoothness, I think of Archie Mason Jr. (little Arch),
I guess I like him because he's a genuine good guy too and looks out for his tribe and Indian people in general. I admire that.
Isn't he a committeeman at Grey Horse?Powwows will continue to evolve in many directions. It is inevitable.

by GuestI went to GON this past weekend and Look Out.........Ralph Hammond is dancing golden age! He was awesome. He placed low, but he definitely going to be tough in this category,as he was in the younger. The straight dancing in golden age is really getting tough, anyway, since the old school dancers are...
