  • Headgear

In the tab leggings thread Historian posted some pics of Iowas wearing cloth turbans, so it got me thinking-
What kind of headgear have you seen on folks?

The roach is pretty much the norm. But when you get to the more central and woodland tribes otter turbans get to be a little more common. But, I have yet to see a cloth (southeastern) type turban on someone. Any other pieces of headgear you have seen?

I remember one dance I was at in Northeastern OK. There was a young man who I later talked to and found out he was from the Southeastern US, around Florida or Georgia I think. This young man was wearing a cloth wrap turbin with a large white fluffy waterbird, can't remember the name of the bird, in the turbin. This young man told me he was a Creek/ Seminole man. He wore this at the Stomp dance later and looked good in it.

I may be mistaken, but I believe the "large white fluffy waterbird" plume you are referring to, comes from a Snowy Egret, which is common in the southeast.
