If you include the entire dance, maybe one day or four days, among the Ponca at least, the singers might do a "prelude" to the dance itself by singing some "clearing throat songs". These are older, melodious songs where often the drum is hit every other beat (on the accent). In English, people call these by various names: appreciation songs; chief's songs; old men's songs.
If the dance is hethushka or ilonska, there are committee songs to be sung before the conclusion of the dance: a nudahonga (leader's) song; a committee song; whip man's; cook's; lady singers. At Ilonska's, there are quite a few family songs. Lamont Brown, now passed on, was amazing at his instantaneous recollection and rendition of a particular family's song.
The so called trick, ruffle, charging songs do have a tail. They just ha ha sing it first!
