  • GRAMMYS and NAMA's

Are the winners of The GRAMMYS and NAMA's (Native American Music Awards) true indicators of the best Native music that Indigenous people have?

Do these awards mean anything to you or have value to the Natives in your community?

In your opinion, are their equal or better Native groups not ever considered for these awards?

Do you personally watch these awards ceremonies?
Powwows will continue to evolve in many directions. It is inevitable.

You got a lot of time on your hands today bro.....LOL!!!....

to answer your question, I think that they are the best in the group that have been nominated, but as far as native world wide.....no.....I think they're are better groups out there who do not get a consideration because of 1) their record company is not part of the professional (ie: Canyon, Indian House etc...) recording artists industry, 2) they do not put out a record, 3) they do not have the time or resources to be consistent....My cousin has won numerous awards (JAYNEZ), and it means something to me that he is considered but to anyone else probably not...(due to low exposure).....and no I don't watch either.....too boring.....and they don't show the Native awards during the Grammy's (as far as I've seen).....

Lot of White Tape to cut......

The process to be eligible to vote for a Grammy is involved.....Its good to see Skins get that exposure....No pun intended....Voted 1 year and that was it.....wasn't to keen on the process....

Interesting how several people are not aware of how a Grammy "Weiner" is chosen as well as selected.....Your gonna "shell out" for a membership....Gave me the impression of joining a Union and paying dues.....

I would agree with this, it's good to have ndns recognized and have awards and so forth, but as far as who's "best" that's open to interpretation by anybody. you could probably even make a case that the powwows.com best drum group polls are closer to the "true champs", whatever ~that~ means LOL

I don't even know the nammy process, but I could see how paying up would be part of it. do you have to join the "academy" or something? Part of it is how much stock do you put in the stamp of approval from any type of organization? be it grammys nammys or gon pw, etc.
