  • Best pick-up guys?

*L No this isn't a best pick up lines thread....

Many drums travel to all corners of Turtle Island to sing. To do this over several weekends, their normal crew of singers might not be available to be gone as long as their drum demands them to be "on the road." One common answer is to "pick up singers" who are familiar with their songs and singing style.

Some considerations for good pick up guys would be: dependability, have a good voice, easy to get along with, able to travel over any length of time, familiar with a wide range of songs. a drivers license, no drama and no warrants *L

Who are five good singers that you would recommend to travel with any drum group?
Powwows will continue to evolve in many directions. It is inevitable.

How many singers do you need for a full crew...
                by kiyaanii mom
If your drum group was asked to be host drum how many singers would be a good number for a contract?

                8, 10, or 12

If someone doesn't show up with a full crew (per the contract - $4000) what would be a fair penalty?

                Less $500 per missing singer?

                Up and coming drum groups
                by The Rock
A favorite subject of mine. I love to see groups come out of left field and rock a pow-wow like it was nobody's business and hardly anyone knows where they come from.

There are groups that are establishing themselves these days, but I wanna talk about the groups that are just getting off...

                Strange drum traditions
                by billyjoejimbob
Being on the east coast, I have seen my share of strange things at powwows. Since Im a singer, I will focus on THE DRUM.

There are a bunch of strange drums in the east. You know who Im talking about. Those drums that sing and hit the drum but you dont know if its northern or southern....

                Is there a difference?
                by LSS
With the present day emergence of "Drum Groups", do any of you guys notice a difference in the way people sing?

What I'm getting at is when I'm sitting at the "Center Drum" I've noticed a good number of people not singing hard, or at least so it seems! I know with...

                Friendly competition???
                by ScarFace
Come on there's nothing wrong with a little friendly competition among drum groups. After all most of all groups know and get along pretty well with eachother. There may be some exceptions but that just adds to the contest. Now I don't want to hear from you winer's about how "real powwow singing...
