  • Appropriate Songs for the Appropriate Occassion

A thought elicited a conversation with a buddy of mine today on the appropriateness of songs.

For example, if the first song or two started up is a War Dance Song, is it acceptable to sing a Hethuska to follow or vice versa? Throwing aside the fact that one would obviously want to build in progression (i.e. not sing a slower War Dance after Fast War Dance), is it ok to use them interchangably?

I know there has been some discussion about this before and if I'm not mistaken it has been touched on in the Straight Dance Forum.

To get a true picture of your purpose in life, you only get the whole picture when you listen with your mind, your ears and your heart. This way The Creator has a direct connection with you and only you...no outside interference.

When you follow the will of IT that created you, understanding that your purpose is not for you...but for IT and all that IT has created, there can be no wrong except failure to be obedient. Only then do we jeopardize the gifts we are given.

Its not the final destination that defines us, rather the journey taken!

    2. My knowledge of Kiowa vocabulary is pretty...

In another thread I found an article written by Dennis Zotigh on the Gourd Dance. In the article, I noticed the following, "A series of Buffalo Dance songs must follow immediately after the last Gourd Dance song is sung. This also follows Kiowa protocol."

    So this brings up...

I recently saw two straight dancers, Henry Hunter and Berwin Moses dancing their style in an endurance contest. They kept up and represented well.

    That got me thinking...

Would an old fast war dance or ruffle be appropriate to sing for a straight dance competition or ...
