As I was told; when you put your songs on tape and sell them, you put those songs on the drum. Which means anyone has the right to sings them. You give those songs to the intertribal arena. Also as a singer with a few competion drums, we try to respect those those and that group. Basically because, "We don't need there songs to win!".

    Selling songs.

    ---

Most people who powwow own powwow tapes and CDs.

When a well known band sells their tapes, immediately other less known bands begin singing their cover songs as part of their own act.

Using this comparison, what are the implications of selling Indian songs.

When an Indian drum group sells their tapes and CDs, are they also selling the rights to sing their songs to whoever buys their tapes or records them?

    What do you think???????

    Dance Progression
    by HeyDad!!
I know that like other songs there are slow medium and fast songs. When singing these songs how should one proceed? For example say your singing 7 or 8 sets, should the first and second be slow, the 3rd slow - medium, 4-6 medium, and 7 and 8 fast?

    Thanks....

    Ponca Songs
    by traddancer553
A friend asked me the other day if i knew anything about Ponca songs and the order they have to be sung. He said that he was told that certain songs had to be sung together in a special order. I know very little about Ponca songs. Does anyone here know about this?

Wrinting songs in languages you do not know..

BPlenty replied to a post in another thread and I think it merits its own topic so here it goes.

There are many drums out there who are "writing" songs without the proper knowledge of what they are doing and even worse, they are writing songs in languages they do not know....

    straight singing becoming the rage?

Black Lodge and Black Stone broke new ground, and influenced today's popular contemporary sound (I know, Rod Hunter & Red Nation way back did too). I seem to notice more of today's groups swaying their attention to please an older demographic, and sing more conservatively as oppossed to the Indian...
