Here in Florida we have a drum known as Family Drum. They are generally good people, just like the rest of us. However they seem to be putting northern honnor beats in southern songs. I have 2 questions. Why are they doing this? and Is it propper for them to do this?

    Thanks

When are them putting them in? If its like right after the lead then thats ok.

No, it's in the second part. They have vids on youtube and on their site: The Family Drum Singers ~ Traditional Drumming Dancing Intertribal Native American Pow Wow Group
      Thanks for viewing this

Uh, cuz they're from northern Florida?

Hey! I'm from northern Florida, am a Boy Scout, and am a member of the Order of the Arrow. In the OA, we never use northern honnor beats except in northern songs and we never use southern honnor beats except in southern songs.

Rough translation: we do what is propper in our songs since we have people who have taught the OA lodge correctly.

Do you consider yourself a northern drum or a southern drum? Or more of a snorthern drum?

In all honestey, we sing a few northern songs, but we primarily sing southern songs. However, we put propper honnor beats in the propper places.

What is everyone's opinion of drum hoppers? I don't like it when they just set in without asking or join in right in the middle of a song. I won't tolerate this with my new drum group. If someone wants to sing with us, I expect them to ask no matter who they are. Don't just come in the middle of...

I know a group of young men in western neb who want to start a drumgroup but they need a drum, they are willing to chip in $$$'s for a drum to start - its seems the neighborhood is scarce for something like this - they need their own, Any one know of any? If so, please post as soon as you can...pilamaya...

                                Is the drum sacred?

I often hear powwow singers and announcers say the drum is sacred.

                                What makes it sacred?

"Powwow drums" as we know them are a little over a 100 years old. (have you ever seen a picture of a tribe moving camp with a big ole' drum loaded on the back of the travois)?:p...

I see a lot of posts questioning whether women should or shouldn’t sing and drum and I always check them out because I am a female singer. I sing with my family drum. My husband is our drum keeper. Since I taught the members of our drum the songs, my husband asked me to sing lead. I had to sing...

How many of you had prior experiences w/ a Northern Drum?

Did it help? Could you specifically pin-point something that helped the most?

With "green" guys coming onto the scene, what kinds of things work for them?
