Today, I was asked to sing a special song at a memorial. Luckily, I have a father who I am able to call and clarify songs for many occasions. I have also been blessed to learn songs, style and protocol from many great northern and southern singers.

Who encouraged you to come to the drum?

Who taught you how to sing?

Who do you go to for information and advice?

Who has helped you with singing on the powwow trail?
Powwows will continue to evolve in many directions. It is inevitable.

The gentlemen I have learned much of my songs from include Michael Rose and Pete Neconie. If not from them, then travels with/near them. Pete also has influenced my dance.

To get a true picture of your purpose in life, you only get the whole picture when you listen with your mind, your ears and your heart. This way The Creator has a direct connection with you and only you...no outside interference.

When you follow the will of IT that created you, understanding that your purpose is not for you...but for IT and all that IT has created, there can be no wrong except failure to be obedient. Only then do we jeopardize the gifts we are given.

Its not the final destination that defines us, rather the journey taken!

Wrinting songs in languages you do not know..
          by Tvskekee
BPlenty replied to a post in another thread and I think it merits its own topic so here it goes.

There are many drums out there who are "writing" songs without the proper knowledge of what they are doing and even worse, they are writing songs in languages they do not know....

I am not one to be critical at times about contemporary songs, some I hear are just mouthwash and I come to thing who's the one who comes up with it and I hope they actually paid you to sing thier song. I make songs myself and it not bull ****, I donot try and make a bad impression when it comes to...

          Written Powwow Music?
          by WhoMe
My father is a song maker. His father was a song maker and his father was a song maker. As they passed these songs down, there was no written form of music to learn from. Yet, each knew hundreds of songs. I would estimate my father knows over 600 songs from different tribes and genres that he has stored...
