  • All STAR So. Women's singing dream team

    _____

If you could assemble an all star women's southern back up group to compete against all comers who would you pick.

Pick five that are loud, have superior voices and could blend together.

My top five singers that I think could take any women's back up contest are:

    1. Georgia Tiger-Noble
    2. Sunny Rose Yellow Mule
    3. Sharon Zotigh
    4. Roberta McIntosh-Henderson
    5. Claudina LeRoy

They all have ton's of experience and can pick up any song after hearing it two times through.
Powwows will continue to evolve in many directions. It is inevitable.

Do they really have to sing good?
I just like having really cute girls singing behind me!

No, they really don't have to sing good. They can just be cute.
If that's your idea of an all star singing group, than I can't argue with that. . . . . .

. . . . . just make sure they all have front teeth!

            Lady singer Dream Team

            1. Barbara Monoessy - dang, she knows more songs than some men singers.... just amazing.

            2. Sally Kerchee-Hill - great voice.... you can hear her from the parking lot and always right on key....

            3. SunnyRose Yellow Mule - another great, strong voice

If you had them backing you up, three is all you'd need.

Also gotta give props to the late M.A. - Mary Ann Anquoe - another one with just a huge knowledge of songs & all things powwow related, and always a blast to talk to.

Dobbin Moenassey, Billie Rice, Ni'vy Starr,Andrea Kemble,Courtney Downing and Roberta McIntosh These women have loud and beautiful voices and sing with feeling. Loud is good... but some don't have pretty voices and don't sing through their noses.

Masters.... Alice Littlecook, Inez Clark, Harriet Collins, Tillie Williams,Bessie LeClair and their niece Billie Rice. More traditional Singers but sang powwow songs too. Billie also sang Northern

All these women could start songs as good as any guy if given a drumstick. I would love to hear some of the women mentioned on this tread start and sing a song alone!!

hate to say it, but without these great women back up metioned so far. Most of the southern singers wouldn't be where they are, takes great women to make that song sound PERFECT!

I was just wondering if everyone has heard of Edisto River Singers and what they thought of this group? (ex. them as people, their singing, them as a group, and what you think of their knowledge of singing.)

I recently ran across a post from Sirdaddy where he commented on how quite a few southern singers are taking their leads way up there nowadays. I'm not calling any names, I think we all know someone who is guilty of this if not you yourself. I know I am.

At any rate, I've listened to...

                        by LSS
With the present day emergence of "Drum Groups", do any of you guys notice a difference in the way people sing?

What I'm getting at is when I'm sitting at the "Center Drum" I've noticed a good number of people not singing hard, or at least so it seems! I know with...

[QUOTE=Singerdad]Different ways, different opinions...no problem with that. My concern is splitting up drum groups. If a group has 15, they shouldn't have to pick their "best" 12.

When I started singing in the 1980s, 7 was a good number too, but nowadays there's a lot more...
