Host Drum.
Food, travel, lodging and honorarium are guaranteed! If you travel more than a 1000 miles sometimes airline tickets are included. As host drum you get to sing a lot of the contest songs and break ties. Casino powwows are the most accomodating and University powwows are good as well.
Contest.
Sometimes you win it all. Sometimes you barely make ends meet. You definitely take your chances.Powwows will continue to evolve in many directions. It is inevitable.

No i am not trying get more points. I am a powwow chairman & alot of the Drummers tell me i should have drum contest. I dont want to have drum contest & have no one show. i would rather take the drum budget & pay for 2 drums. this way i know i will have 2 drums. I just wanted to get some more singers opinions before i make up my mind.
I personally rather be a host drumWill

Hey man I was just jokin.
But I imagine if you do have a contest put out some flyers, and drums will show up. If it's worth it I suppose though.
A real contest should be at least 1st 1500, 2nd-1000, 3rd 500...
that's at least because you have to think of how many singers all the groups have, and how much money they need to get to your powwow. Also have an honorarium for other groups that do show.

If you are asking if you should have a drum contest....I feel you should...it gives the newer drums a chance to show their stuff...and get some recognition...so they would get the chance to have host drum opportunities....around here....a drum contest brings drums from all over ...gives people a chance to hear new drums as well as the more established drums..my opinion at leastsigpicWe spend a lifetime worrying about if we make a difference....Marines don't have that problem.

yes its allways an honor to get asked to be host. but i'll take a good contest anyday....i think it makes you sing harder...host you kinda pace yourself cause you have a lot more singing to do...contest its all about what you put on the line your practice your new song....the nervousness and the thrill of competition...is what it's all about for me.....contest for this guy<-----slide slide slip n slide

Red Blanket:
If you live in a place that does not have too many drums and drums have to travel more than 500 miles to get to you, then you're better off getting two host drums.
But if you live where drums are a dime a dozen . . .Powwows will continue to evolve in many directions. It is inevitable.
