Smoke Dance
Yeah, they had the Smoke Dance exhibition and contest there this year. It wasn't as impressive as last year's, but they did have the exhibition every session which invited everybody to dance. I think the better smoke dancers might be found up in New York or further north in Ontario. They just seem to be more into it there. I wish more WI Oneidas did it!Comment

Good Afternoon everyone, I've browsed this board may times but I haven't seen much info on my cultural dances. So to get the ball rolling what do the rest of you think about smoke dances as competition at many powwows up hear in the NY/NJ area?

Ie; the history, dance styles, etc!
Plus where can i obtain info such as;
Chicken dance designs, trades or barters for outfits?, bead work? Any info so i know more is helpful if your aware of this topic.

I have read someplace that the Stomp Dance originates in the south-east, but is there not a more northern version of the dance as well? Danced by the Ojibwe and other tribes around there? If so, could someone describe it me? x11-04-2008, 04:42 PM -

I have a video from an old Shakopee Pow Wow showing this dance. Does any have any info about the dance, history, etc. We have never seen it here in the east.
