  • PowWow in Washington, DC?

Does anyone know if there is a powwow going on in DC around September 24-26?

No, there is not; but there are all sorts of other events surrounding the opening of NMAI; such as the FREE performances of SPIRIT in their huge air conditioned tent which will be on the mall. These are FREE performances but you should reserve a ticket ahead of time, though. http://www.spirit7thfire.com

Actually, the first 'Inaugural' pow-wow was in 2002 on the Mall.

                  BushyB:

Is the social on the mall a powwow or social dances from all the nations from the Western Hemisphere? I heard it was just dance and singing demonstrations from the different indigenous groups.

Also, can you post more information about the IHS powwow? It will give me and "the Krew" something to do before we head to Buffalo Billiards.

                  __

There IS a powwow scheduled for next year. It is will tentatively take place in the New Washington D.C. Convention Center or the MCI Center. Stay tuned for details.
Powwows will continue to evolve in many directions. It is inevitable.

Looks like the NMAI powwow staff are refreshed enough to take on another powwow, the powwow on the Mall was a blast but it was hot and muggy, glad the next one will be in an AC'd building.

Is there a traditional pow wow at the college or university in Mt. Pleasant? I remember going to one before, but I'm not sure if they still have it. If someone can share some information about it, it would be much appreciated.
