This pow wow gets my vote for top scin pow wow. Almost everyone partied at the radisson. The mens tradition and contemporary was cool. Although my friend said it best, they both ended up to be contemporary. I really need to get my gear sewn up. I have this idea I need to get down on beads. I won't say till I'm done. My pops took 2nd in sr. n. trad. They had the coolest shirt design too. I hooked up some blueberrydro. Most excellent this time of year.

I forgot to mention that I videotaped friday night. I got sr mens n. trad and fancy/grass, mens trad. grass, fancy and chicken, womens fancy and jingle. I would record more, but I have to find a good spot to record from. Sometimes I scope the place out. I recorded from the bleachers. If anyone is interested in a copy, email me @ [email protected]. Hopefully it wont be full. I also recorded yesterday's foo fighters debate rally show @ tempe "beach" park. Does anyone remember when natives first called that place the beach before anyone else because of the 9s? Well anyway, we recorded about 3 row from the stage. TB this weekend.

Old School, you are on the wrong soap box this time. If anyone knows me, on this board and on the pow wow trail, they also know my girls...and I am pretty darn strict. My family is pretty darn strict, and I trust my sister in law's judgment for taking them to the Branding Iron, especially since she nor her husband drink. I saw no harm in them being there, chaperoned, as I have seen many young ladies be out and about at the other casino pow wows obviously unchaperoned by any adult. I have no fear when it comes to my children as they are very fortunate in their homelife. They come from a loving family with both parents in the home and the support system of extended family on both sides. We are also very traditional in our beliefs.....so since my daughter is almost an adult, if I haven't taught her the values of life by now, then it is too late. At present my daughter is a four year varsity letterman, student council, native american club officer, FCCLA officer, Oklahoma and National Honor Society, 3 year class officer and just a great kid. When she travels the pow wow trail on her own, then her decisions are her own....not this trip though. She still has another year before she can travel on her own. LOL
So, thank you for voicing your concern....but I have faith in my decisions and trust in my family to protect my children...give them a little rein, but not suffocate them.
This was her first "49" and with your auntie and uncle chaperoning you, well....you had to have clean fun.
I am thankful for my grandparents, my parents, my brothers, my aunties and uncles, my children, my companion and all of those who influenced me to be strong and proud of being who I am and where I come from. Knowledge is power

Oh, yeah....and when she does make bad decisions in her young adult life.... I will still love her and support her since I had my share of bad decisions at 19, 20, 30, 40.....LOL And there will always be drinking, drugs, sex, etc. All we can hope for is that our kids will make better decisions than we did and handle these situations with wisdom. I, for one, cannot judge anyone or how they raise their children because I have not walked a mile in their moccasins.

The age limit for the Branding Iron is 18 and over. They check Id's, so unless you have a fake one, you won't be drinking unless you know how to be real sneaky. Most of us go there to relax and enjoy the music and the company and the 49. Except for the few drunk non-indians, everyone is pretty cool. So unless you were there to check it out for yourself, don't assume the worst.

SLTate - you said, Cali pow wows are going to earn the rep of "party pow wow" before too long. Dang, talk about a soap box, going on and on!! LOL!!! My only statement is that..... I have no idea what you sister was thinking in letting your young daughter go to the Branding Iron BAR!!! To each his own. I know she's a good girl and has good teachings.
Work like you don't need money,
Love like you've never been hurt,
And dance like no one's watching.

LOL Touche....forgive me for climbing on my own soapbox. The comment on Cali pow wows was in response to another thread about "party pow wows"....since it is evident every pow wow has parties. LOL
I understand San Manuel was outside this year. The only time I went, it was in a big building by a fairgrounds. How does everyone think Indio will be since it is Thanksgiving weekend this year, again?
What is the money? My husband is MC but we have not received any flyers as of yet. We are never home anyways, LOL
I went to Indio in the spring a couple of years ago and I liked this pow wow, it was really nice. I am thinking of flying out there and checking it out. Sounds pretty good!

                              Indio

Hopefully Indio will be COOL again!!! One of the primary complaints about Indio in October is the heat. I know many people are happy about the date change. As for SLTATE and the MC thing, don't you mean, ONE of the MC's? Indio has two MC's. AND for everyone else, NO drum contest this year, invited drums only. That should be different.

And don't get me started on the $$$ question since I miss the good old days when people used to dance just to dance and didn't ask about how much the prize money was. But the Cabazon Band of Mission indians website usually has that info on it.

I know what you mean. But big money brings in big drums and I usually follow that.....
