So? Those of you (navajo or otherwise) that are for the most part, reverant towards your own beliefs about the following.
What are you gonna do?
Do you think the committee will do anything about the facilities?
What am I talking about?
Well....dunno how many of ya'll heard or remember, but, it's been naggin' me for sometime now to post this.
The Pit in Albuquerque was used for the funeral of a former UNM Lobos Basketball coach, Bob King. He passed on this year and his funeral was held in The Pit. Open coffin and all...right smack dab at Center Court!!
I don't know the beliefs or "ways" of others but, among Navajos, some of whom, myself included, have this HEALTHY respect (not fear) of the things associated with the dead, and things surrounding their internment.
I know they had the coffin open there, and while yes, death is a part of this World, to some Indian people, it's changed things with respect to The Pit. Alot of Navajos I've talked to have stated they won't be returning to Gathering....ever again. ...guess we can stop calling it the "Gathering Of the navajos" ennit. LMAO!!!!
I'll probably go, but, refrain from entering The Pit. I usually go just for the Big Tent anyway...although, some damn good stuff is usually up for sale inside too...DAMN!!!!!!!
I guess they felt it was appropriate to have his funeral there, I think he was the first coach there or something at UNM...I'm not aware of the particulars surrounding his passing, but, point is, they had his funeral there, open coffin and all.
Just wanted to get the thoughts of folks out there and what they thought of the whole thing.
If yer goin. GREAT!! Enjoy yerself!! I got no bad feelings towards anyone that goes, but, I'm just curious if what happened will influence anyones attendance.....or if the committee plans do anything...smoke the place down or something......if that's what they believe in doing. Everyone has their own ways of dealing with these things....I'm sure. To each their own.
Like I said...if you go, have fun! ....it's a good place to meet folks, plus the powwows okay and the tent usually has some neat stuff in there.......cept, seems to me lately that there's been too much crap, catering more to white/tourist tastes than to actual indians, some of whom go there to pick up hard to find items or supplies.
Anyway......I'll throw up a poll here too.
