people are in denial, yes powwows are pre planned, yes they are , bottom line if there gonna do that then tell the public who is going then rest of the dancers will not have to waste there time or money. contests are not really contests today!!

ha ha thats a funny one....but somepws r kinda like fixed i'm not sayin ALL of them now...i've heard of one in particular where the DAUGHTER of one of organizers got third or second - can't remember right now and she only danced sunday. now like that's mathematically impossible.

buy you do run into "local yokal" favorites everyplace i'm sure everyone can contest to that and if you're not a local yokal favorite or sic of them ALWAYS placin you'd probably think ALL pws are fixed

This is one reason I'm glad we do not have contest powwows in Alaska, if we did maybe my kids would take on this attitude. If I were you; I'd look into myself and decide why you really dance, and what for. Sounds like you've either lost your perspective, or never had it to begin with. I hope you are still dancing Lakota Son; do it for yourself, pretty soon you'll see that contest money is really not important at all.

                              I like your post Roob.

Anyways, I dance at both types of gatherings. I accept honorarium at tradish powwows. I don't turn down any prize money. I dance just as hard at each one. I just love it.

People whether they contest or not work hard at their outfits. They want to look good. For those of you who go to church, don't you want to wear your very best. I want to wear my best to any dance. Outfits are a consideration to the judges but they are not all that's considered. In order to win a dance contest, you have to dance well and dance hard.

Any person who wins week after week has something going. Probably a combination of both appearence and dance ability. Let's face it, not everyone has the beat or a great lookin outfit.
There's the old stereotype about black people that they can all dance, they can all sing. Man, look at Bill Cosby. He could never dance or sing worth beans. Us Indians are like that too. But he was good at something else.

Lakota Son, look at it that way. You may be awesome at what you do for a living but that guy that always places at powwows would probably suck trying to do your job. Besides, you'll have your job for as long as you want it. Til you retire. Some of these powwow winners ( I'm not saying all) don't have a job, no retirement benefits, very little social security. You're better off. Now you're making me jealous of your success. Dam you.Aye just kidding.

                              Have a good day.
