    how many????

How many times is this thread gonna be posted????

I'm sorry LS that you feel that way...just don't go. If you mean rigged in a way that the same ppl win over and over and over again.....it's because the same ppl go.....DUHHHHH!!!!

Ummm, I've heard (he said she said) many many ppl think that the pws that I help put on are rigged/fixed....and I can honestly say (believe me or not, your choice) that I, personally, don't do that or believe in doing that EVER!!!! I do the registration and the tabulating, find the judges, etc. I do this because I can't trust anyone else to do it......now the judges on the other hand.......hard to find fair and honest ones.

P.S. - I never had a problem where I couldn't show the tabulation scores and the judges sheets (name eliminated) if there's a questionable issue. Dancers/Singers have EVERY right to look over their scores.

The only pow-wow I was at that was rigged was the one that I placed at, I mean, who in the hell would put me on a ballot.
It is so sad that a family can torn apart by something as simple as a wild pack of dogs.

Anyways, I dance at both types of gatherings. I accept honorarium at tradish powwows. I don't turn down any prize money. I dance just as hard at each one. I just love it.

People whether they contest or not work hard at their outfits. They want to look good. For those of you who go to church, don't you want to wear your very best. I want to wear my best to any dance. Outfits are a consideration to the judges but they are not all that's considered. In order to win a dance contest, you have to dance well and dance hard.

Any person who wins week after week has something going. Probably a combination of both appearence and dance ability. Let's face it, not everyone has the beat or a great lookin outfit.
There's the old stereotype about black people that they can all dance, they can all sing. Man, look at Bill Cosby. He could never dance or sing worth beans. Us Indians are like that too. But he was good at something else.

Lakota Son, look at it that way. You may be awesome at what you do for a living but that guy that always places at powwows would probably suck trying to do your job. Besides, you'll have your job for as long as you want it. Til you retire. Some of these powwow winners ( I'm not saying all) don't have a job, no retirement benefits, very little social security. You're better off. Now you're making me jealous of your success. Dam you.Aye just kidding.

        Have a good day.
Well put....u have class & style!

Some Pow-wows Are Fixed, And That Ultimately Sux, But Most Of Them Are Pretty Fair.

I've been to some where it wasn't about how you danced but how "Native" you looked. Seen some where dancers drop part of their regalia and still place. Even where judges are related to the dancers.
                Don't ever stop dancing

                  politics in the powwow circle

Everywhere you go there is a local favorite! That is just a part of the powwow circle.

I hardly ever see an organization, a committee, or a community try to rig their powwow. What i do see is head judges favouring family and friends.

Powwow organizers will never be able to please everyone.
What powwows have to start asking is that their head judges have no family judging or dancing competition.
When a person is asked to be a head judge, he/she is being honoured for their knowledge of dances, songs and there honesty.
Some head judges these days just have no shame when their family all place, and all family members are utilized in the judging of the competitions.

please reply to this if anyone agree's with me

                    WHAT if??

Okay, I had a friend throw this out at me recently...What if they did start posting ALL ballots after they are tabulated and the powwow is over..I'm talkiing judges ballots!!! Maybe even names?? My friend said" Than do you think powwows will be more fair?"...Okay ..I thought about it and I think it'd be very interesting to see the outcome! DO YOU THINK IF ALL BALLOTS WERE POSTED THE POWWOW would be more fair???I know some people who thought they got jipped and were too scared to see what their points were so I went up and looked, AYE I aint scurred!! Anyway, this would eliminate a person being too scared becuase they feel it's shameful to wonder..itd make ALL points and votes and from whom open!!!NOW THIS WAS JUST A HYPOTHETICAL THING MY FREN A NON-DANCER BROUGHT UP.....................so don't beat me up in here!!
Nuwa-nu!!..Look at the Yummy Yaha's!!mmmm..mmm Real injun food!!

I agree with your comments ff2005. I don't know about the northern judges part of it but the head southern judges (be it man or woman) at some of the past powwows had their brother, sister, mother, aunt, uncle, cousins, etc. win 1st place. My personal opinion is I don't think their immediate families should be allowed to compete but this will never happen. I've even heard some of the judges ask people who their friends are so that they can pick them for judges.

Woggs, It might work but.............. what if you (not necessarily you) didn't do so good so you go up and check points and ballots. You find out that someone that you hang with (someone very fair and honest) didn't put you down cuz they thought you didn't dance well.

Would'nt this cause hard feelings or at the very least hurt you a little and you don't know what to say to that judge. Even worse, that judge knows you went and checked and now you know that he/she didn't place you. It could get very uncomfortable.

What we have is not the greatest system but we have to go with it until somebody comes up with a better way.

Well, in my lil hypothetical world, if a fren was judging and didn't pick me, than I'd just have to learn the lesson of sportsman ship..right?? anyway,..i was just wondering what people thought about it because most "white, mainstream" competitions are open ballot..you know exactly who a judge picked and what score was given.....but yeah I do think it'd cause alot of hate, but HEY I have been in a frens special where I didn't even make the top ten, so that didn't bother me, it was her special and she was fair...thats all

BUT REMEMBER..i was just shootin this question out just to see what peeps thought about it.....IT WASn't my idea but it does make you think "...WHAT IF"!!
