Are they fair? Or is the contesters already pre-picked because it's a special. When a special goes on here on my rez a family (usually a powwow family) usually sponcers it. And that family usually decides who goes on to the semi finals then to the finals. Just saying because I seen this guy who really danced bad but yet made it to the finals, I was thinking about how many other dancers could have taken that spot easily but didn't. Anyways, just another something to complain about on a Monday morning.

Why not just give that dancer the prize money and not waste other people's time with the long boring specials, eh? Must've been from Canyon Echoes ... one year there were three specials in a row on a Saturday Evening spanning over 2.5 hours which was totally insane.

I think it can really go overboard myself. I think if the family really wanted to, they should hold a memorial powwow, that way everyone knows what they are there for.

Bullseye Ta'Techno! You've won this round on this Monday morning. Anyways yeah. The fancy special was awsome but the other two specials were merely dragged on too much. Spike and Izayah rocked it hardcore, truly too fast and way freaking furious but the other guy, well he did a few spins confusingly and fell off beat and missed the ending, and during the second song he literally dragged his feet and ended up standing for awhile as if disoriented by the ferociousness of Spike and Izayah orbiting around his bewildered attempt of dancing, he simply became a spectator caught in the middle of two tornados, Tornado Spike and Tornado Izayah. He was the flying cow in the movie twister, let's just put it that way. I enjoyed the powwow up until the specials. I missed most of the Grand Entries as I had workshop during Friday and Saturday, so I danced to dance and not to win, just for your information.

If you're into specials, then Chinle is the capital of Specials. I don't mind them, but they make for a long evening. In the end, you have to rush through the remaining contests and don't get out of the building until 2 or 3 AM.

A good upcoming powwow with no specials during the powwow sessions is the Apple Blossom powwow on April 2, 2005. Just lots of good songs and dancing.

Hire Head Staff that haven't even been introduced to the circle yet or even hire your own family members?

I dunno, I was raised ole style, and had to be introduced to the circle before I could even dance in regalia. Nowadays, I see so many people who just 'throw' on some regalia, wear...

Winnipeg area help needed - housefire!
              by Singing Eagle
Hi everyone - I'm looking for some suggestions about where to go and who to ask for donations for a family that suffered a house fire on Friday - they live in a rural area and currently are camping out as the house is not habitable and hydro is turned off.

              The house was not completely...

My cousin called last week saying his son had a interview at the Korean Consulate on Friday and could he and his mother stay at our house. I said sure. Well this was on Wed. night, they arrived on Thursday afternoon, spent the night and called me Friday to say thank you and that they decided to had...

              Going Broke For Powwow
              by Lakota Wiyan
Recently, my family and I attended a powwow here in Rapid City, and just about went BROKE! Even the admission alone put us back over $100.00 for the weekend. Even my four year old, who slept most of the evening sessions, had to pay $9.75 for the weekend.

              The concession stand in the...

I've served on my local pow-wow committee for the last 3 years. This will be my last year since we are appointed by our Tribal Council and have a limited number of terms we can serve.
Anyway, the money we make from vendors, registration, etc. is either spent or put back into the "general...
