This one always sounds gooood, that casino and hotel just sounds emaculate, haven't been there yet but have thought of it often. Hey isn't this powwow usually bigger with like $75,000 in prize money?
    ...jus put on Mandareeeee....

          Hon-Dah

I've been to this pow wow about 3 times. Quit going about 3 years ago. They have the same AD every year. The last time I went it rained on Sunday and the AD still made the Men's categories dance in the rain. Yes, feathers and all. It was off/on rain, so he could have waited but didn't.

Also, they charge to get in and it's in the parking lot behind the casino...we paid about $5 a person PER DAY to get in. Only other option was to register as a dancer and get a bracelet. I maintain that casino pow-wows should have enough $$$ to not charge people unless they're offering something in return like refreshments or a feed. Which they don't do.

I can't think of any redeeming qualities of this pow wow

I think that most Arizona casino powwows that are organized by the respective nations have had their days numbered. Look at the casino powwow at Tonto Apache - none for the third year in a row.

Cliff Castle is scaling back as well as Hon-dah. Casino AZ and Ft McDowell are staying the course, but casino powwows in Nevada are going south all well. The only ones that seem to be expanding are the ones in California, Colorado and New Mexico.

It may have to do with the committees planning the event who put everything into the host drums and MCs and leave what's left for the dance contests. At that point, they then have to charge for admission to cover other expenses.

That's a very logical point you have. I've always wondered why the casino powwows in AZ have been scaling back. Good Point Tech.

Sometimes it helps to change MCs and Host Drums from year to year ... otherwise, it's like a replay of what happened last year and the year before that.

I went three years ago and every year since...it didnt rain...but i think it did the year before. But my cuz went even then, and she said that they all had to go inside to some lil room, and they had the rest of the pow-wow there. Well, the powwow is NEXT to the parking lot, not in. And they do charge, but dancers get a ticket for a free meal which i think is nice of them. I really like that pow-wow its one of my favorites. So come check it out....
