  • GON - Who's going back in 2006?

i wanna know who's going back next year with all the complaints about this year - the event staff, the crowds, the prices, the long lines and the damn sky rocketing admission prices? and just why are you going back - just to say you went? nothing else to do that weekend? WHY?!?

    I am!

I am going back because I am a dancer and I think that this powwow is the most beautiful sight on the face of the earth.
Other reasons is I have a damn job, and it is my vacation time and I don't have to go their and depend on winning. We all know are budget if it's not in your budget to have fun, stay the hell home. Some of you's, your mind is already made up before you leave for this powwow, lets go to this powwow and have a ****ty time, so I can talk trash on the computer when I get home. I am glad this powwow drained some of your pockets, you ungrateful selfish individuals. One day I will win there, you see that is a goal of mine. If I don't I will know that I gave it my best shot. To all the true champions who won, congradulations. A real champion is one who treats their competitors with respect.
Ok your turn to start b ing at me, for telling you what really hurts the truth.

untill 3 years ago i've only attended small traditional pow wows with 5-15 dollar admission charge for the weekend that had the local dancers and a bunch (2-3) drums that try their best.

This was my first GON, and I loved it. I expeced to pay an pelt or two, and the crowds i guess didn't bother me, bc i knew how to find my friends.

well...I'm definately going back in 06.

I will be in Iraq. I have been trying to make it to this powwow at least once in my lifetime. Next year, will be a no-go again, "UNLESS", I get the 2 week leave from Iraq in April. Not holding my breath though cause more than likely I won't make it again.

                    Anyways, thanx Uncle Sam!!!!

I know what you mean, missed it two years in a row. I remember calling home and everyone was at GON, I was bummed out. That's what happens Ndnsoilderboy, I'd be at a powwow and have duty the next day, boy that sucked. Glad I never have to do it again.

i would imagine if you lived in the immediate area it wouldn't be too much of "problem" to attend - but look at most of the drums mentioned earlier - most have over a 24 hour straight (no overnight hotel - just straight driving) to get there.

then to get hassled because u wanted to watch another drum and get kicked out. most of these drums just come once - just to say yea we won gatherings and don't come back for awhile - until they "forget" what the gatherings experience all entails...

We got up 2 in the morning and drove so we can get in line early, I'd be pissed off too. This powwow is too contraversial..............makes my brain hurt. LOL!

Dancing Plumes hit the nail on the head! The poster clearly tells everyone the prices of the powwow. Duh when you travel somewhere you pay for food, a room and all other things that come up. If you can't afford it don't go! I come out from Phoenix every year, so please all you haters stay home so there will be shorter lines to buy tickets, it will be less crowded and we won't have to wait so long to use the restroom and for a fry bread.

I guess someone can dance for me then. Cause some of us Ndns are putting our lives on the line just so these Ndns can dance.

I hear ya on calling home and everyones gone to the powwow. My family wouldn't even be home to answer the phone....

Was it just me or were the prices at the food stands outrageous? $7.50 for a frybread taco? $4.00 for a frybread? $3.00 for a cup of coffee? Come on, people. Thazz crazeee. How does that work? Who gets most of the $$$? The vendors or GON?

Yes, I confess it. I am still a virgin...a powwow virgin. I have been heartily assured that should I attend a powwow and hear the drums that my wayward hearty helping of Native blood would rise up and do the brown skin boogie. (Sorry I have not the gadgetry as one person here apparently has to measure...

My mother recently passed away, July 7th, this summer. My question is what is an acceptable amount of time for mourning my mother? I understood it to be a year before I can enter back into the dance circle, others say it's up to me? I need some advice. By the way I am of Potawatomi/Ojibwe herit...
