  • Yvette Ewalk to graduate OU

This is to let all of you out in "pow wow land" that Yvette Ewalk will be graduating from OU tomorrow, May 14, with her Masters. She works in Anadarko and specializes in working with children as a counselor.
Yvette has lived down here for 4 years and has worked hard to complete her education in states. I have had the honor of being her friend for about 10 years now after befriending her sister Lisa when our older children were babies(Amber and my daughter Liz)LOL
It is good to know that our pow wow people are also contributing to their communities and setting examples by getting educated and implementing their education to assist Native Americans. So I guess Yvette is a Boomer Sooner now!LOL
I am thankful for my grandparents, my parents, my brothers, my aunties and uncles, my children, my companion and all of those who influenced me to be strong and proud of being who I am and where I come from. Knowledge is power

Congrats Yvette! This is a good thread. Who else is graduating this spring?? Let's take the time to acknowledge all of the hard work and dedication that our pow-wow people put into furthering their education.

Well, I went to the graduation and saw Jennifer and Yvette receive their diplomas and it was awesome. There were so many people, all races and I was trying "lu-lu" the loudest for the indians graduating. LOL
I am still going to school(SWOSU) and will be for awhile since I work full time and carry full time hours (9). I am attending OU this summer under the AICEE program(American Indian Continuing Education program). I am striving for my degree and eventually my masters in Education, particulary Special Education. It will be awhile because I have to be a mom too. LOL
My oldest daughter is graduating high school(early graduation program) and I have another daughter who is a sophomore, one who is in the 5th grade and my baby is in the 3rd grade. So, it will be awhile before my time is my own. LOL
Ponka-We is heading to Washington D.C for the summer, she emailed me and said she was doing really well. So good luck to her and all the Native Americans who are trying to educate themselves and also participate in their culture to keep it alive. You have to participate in both worlds to keep a balance in your life, and I am very proud of all of the Native people who are successful at this task.

I have a friend whose grand daughter is in Nation wide children's hospital. She is is pretty bad shape and they don't know if she will make it. I am lighting a candle for her on my altar and Trinity Hope's grand father is asking for people to pray for her and send positive energy to her and her family....
