  • National Pow Wow - the real National Pow Wow (DC)!!

I've got a few questions about this dance.

    1. What is the parking situation for the MCI Center? Will we be able to park there? Parking deck? Lot? Costs?
    2. Should be buy an advance ticket?
    3. If contesting in dance and singing, do we pay a registration fee for that and a ticket or how does that work?
    4. What are the seating arrangments for the MCI Center? If singing, should we bring our own chairs?
I think everyone on this rez is addicted to Harry Potter...lol...

    seating:
For singing it never hurts to bring ur own...how comfortable do u wanna be :)
lol...theyll probably have some chairs but who knows how many folks will be there

    parking:

mci center is boardered by 6th and 7th streets running north and south, and F and G Pl (i think) running east and west.

There is a parking garage underneath dont know if they will allow parking for this event. The streets parking for friday is no parking on 6th and 7th during rush hour which is like maybe 7-9:30am and 3:30 - 6:30pm. I think u can park all hrs on g pl. G street might be the same. It also maybe metered with a max the meter will take at 2hrs. You have to be real careful with DC meters, they r electric. And sometimes will eat ur money. Or if u park where one has a broken sign, it may be fixed when u return and u may have a ticket.
During the weekend I dont think there are time restrictions on the streets.

There is an outside pay lot on F and 8th i think it is. But there are loads of pay garages around. Which offer early bird weekday specials if u get in before a certain time. Prices running anywhere from 8 to about 15 dollars, but i can go walk and see if u want...

Singerdad, great minds must think alike. I just emailed one of the ladies from the NMAI this morning asking about Amtrak and the Metro. We were thinking of riding Amtrak up (thought it would be a nice ride) but not at $93 one way - that is from Richmond! Since we are only coming on Saturday we were thinking of finding a metro stop and leaving the vehicle there. What do ya'll think of that? Is that okay? Are those metro stops safe? I have never ridden a metro so I know nothing at all!!!!!!!!!

hmmm.... i would say your car would be safe - i've parked my car overnight at a few stations many times. a lot of folks do it and i've even left my car at a station over the weekend, i suggest parking in a garage though. on the weekends you do not have to pay.
but the thing is... not all metro stops have parking lots, especially the ones downtown DC, so you would have to park at a station in va - i'll pm you more info ndnqt!
i think the pw committee is definitely relying on public transportation to get folks to and from this event since it's right in the heart of the city... sooo....
for everyone else... here's a link to the metro map:
the metro stops right under the mci center, you would get off on the Gallery Place - Chinatown metro stop (it is marked with a large target, located in the center of the map on the Red Line, it's a transfer station, so the Yellow and Green lines also meet there)

(you can also find more info about the metro system there, like how much and such...)
if ya'll have any questions, pm me and i'll try to help ya!

                    Rules and Regs

                    Hi,

My group is planning on coming to this dance. However some of my guys may not be able to make it until saturday. Can we add singers to the registration on Saturday before the first grand entry or is the crew we sign up on Friday night the final crew? Thanks.

I know this may sound like dumb question,....but are there any host hotels up in the area?
To get a true picture of your purpose in life, you only get the whole picture when you listen with your mind, your ears and your heart. This way The Creator has a direct connection with you and only you...no outside interference.

When you follow the will of IT that created you, understanding that your purpose is not for you...but for IT and all that IT has created, there can be no wrong except failure to be obedient. Only then do we jeopardize the gifts we are given.

Its not the final destination that defines us, rather the journey taken!

                              DC Info

Here is what I have as far as info for this powwow so far. Traffic in DC is CRAZY and parking is just as bad. This is coming straight from the people in DC. The best thing to do is get a hotel close to the MCI center and either take the metro (which will probably be only one or two stops away), walk, or drive in. Again parking is a bit&h so leave yourself a lot of time.

                              LSS,
                              The host hotels are:
                              Hotel Monaco 1-800-649-1202
                              Hotel Washington 202-638-5900
                              Hyatt Regency Washington 1-800-233-1234
                              Phoenix Park Hotel 1-800-824-5419

These hotels have powwow rates. However, we called yesterday and got the very last rooms at the Hyatt Regency. We are going to try to get the committee to add some rooms because they are going like hot cakes.

For drum contest....drums listen up....there is a 12 MAN MAXIMUM. You can only have a max of 12 singers and a minimum of 6. So you drums that were going to crew up with about 15, the commitee says 12 is the max.

                              Hope this helps some.
