Arlee Powwow June 30th- July 4th

Points start on Friday July 1st at 7:00 pm

This year's celebration will be dedicated to Victor and Bodine Matt.

It all starts on June 30 -- a week away -- with Campers Day once the sun comes up, and the annual memorial under the dance arbor at 7 p.m. Registration for the 18-and-under stickgame tournament begins on the 30th, as well.

Tentatively scheduled for 7 p.m. on July 1 are welcoming remarks from Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer and Tribal Council Chair Fred Matt, which will be followed by the beginning of competitive dancing.

Other special events will be Mass on July 3 at 10:30 a.m., a 3-on-3 basketball tournament (call 406/253-5907 for details), and lots of dance specials.

July 4 will see the annual Snake Dance at 1 p.m.

And, of course, there will be frybread and other delectables to buy, not to mention tee-shirts and other souvenirs.

The celebration is alcohol- and drug-free, and curfew (one hour after the war dancing ends) will be enforced.

For more information, call Phillip Paul at 406/745-0023 or Clark Matt at 406/726-3215.
