This thread is for the dancers. Do any of you like to get your pictures taken at a pow-wow? Does it tick you off or you like to get your picture taken.

    no not really

I actually don't mind it. As long as someone dosen't go and take my ideas then it's fine with me.

        Paparazzi

It's annoying sometimes, especially during Grand Entry. When people are lined up along the way. Seems like a run way. I use my fan to try and shield myself. But while I'm dancing I can't control who takes my pic.

I have no clue how movies star do it?

Does anyone charge for people to take your pics?

It doesn't bother me. At Cherokee July 4th my little girl and I must have been stopped over 20 times for photos. We just smiled, and I think she likes it...she's such a little ham.

It is better though when people have the courtesy to at least ask and it doesn't turn into a paparazzi situation. Everyone at Cherokee asked so that was cool. No problem there.

I know some guys get bothered by flash bulbs during contest, but that doesn't bother me either. I just concentrate on dancing. Heck, the more flash bulbs the better if you ask me...means we're doing pretty good huh?

I always wonder where my picture ends up or what they do w/those pictures....do they create an album that says "Real Live Indians"? A few times people have come up to me & given me pictures they'd taken at a previous powwow....which of course are candid photos so i'm either chewin my gum, laughin at my sister or hiding behind my fan!

It's awesome when people take your photo at a pow wow then give you prints at the next one. I didn't used to think about where the photos ended up, but now that I'm a dad I usually ask if they're just personal photos that they're taking of us...especially my little girl.

I know some dancers who charge up to $5-$10 for people to take their photo, but that seems sort of cheesy to me. I wouldn't pay $5 for a photo of me so why would I charge that much? LOL

I've heard some people relate stories of really rude people wanting to take photos, but thank goodness everyone I've ever encountered was really nice. I like to talk to people so it's cool to know where the visitors come from.

very true! I think i'll start asking folks where they're from & what the heck they're gonna do w/my picture...i dont mind taking pictures at all, i just dont like those photographers that hunt you down & try to catch you in action, all up in your face or hiding around & dont even bother to ask....i bet i have a few mean mug shots out there...hahaha!

                  Gotta tell this...

At Cherokee July 4th this one lady asked to take our photo and we said sure. So, she starts fooling around with her camera and fiddling around and whatnot...in general kinda fumbling around. My daughter starts tapping her foot and then just sighs really loud and shrugs her shoulders. It was too cute. I started laughing and then the lady finally snapped her shot.

I thought to myself, "Man, she's gonna be a Indian woman through and through - don't wait for no one!" LOL

                    Re:

I generally don't mind at all...I figure if someone is taking a picture when I dance then I am doing something right and they are getting something out of it...sometimes before and after a picture leads to questions which I think is great. The only time I have a problems is when someone is rude or disrepectful to either myself or any of the other dancers at which point I get upset.
