  • Northern AND Southern Dress...

I had a quick question I wanted to get some advice on.

My knees and ankles are shot-I couldn't dance to save my soul anymore, but I wanted to put together a Man's Traditional outfit.

I happen to have relatives from the North and relatives from the South and I want to respect both regions.

What do you all think? Is it better to represent the two different styles with two different outfits OR is it possible (politically and aestetically) to combine the two styles into one outfit? I'm broke as a joke, so I have to consider cost and resources as well.. I live in an Urban area far from either of my Nations, so I can't really go to any Elders here for advice.

    Thanks for your input! Wado!

Men's tradish is a northern dance to begin with- I would keep it northern. Stick with the person's "northern" tribe to personalize it for them. ;)

          What is "Northern?"
          by WhoMe
It seems the term "Northern" has many different meanings. We all have seen it used at powwows to describe dances, songs, drum groups, etc.

          So what exactly is "Northern?"

If I lived in Northern Texas, California or Florida could I tell the people who...

Now my question...Since not many Pow-Wows offer smoke dance as competition, and you want to enter the contest in womens traditional and the categories are split into northern and southern, which one would you dance...

What exactly is the difference between Northern and Southern Cloth Dancing or Drums or anything? Is it the location in the United States as divided like the Mason/Dixon line? There must be more to it than that. If I live in Tennessee (southern state) and am Cherokee would I dance Northern or Southern...

New to the Cloth Style & Lots of Q's
          by *Powwow_Princess*
Hi, I haven't really danced in over a year due to a car accident but I am healed now and plan on getting back on the powwow trail. I have been given a beautiful set of red beadwork and I was thinking about getting into the cloth style except I have very little background in it and was wondering if there...

If you had to host a pow wow or gathering?
          by lovlie1
          1) You could only have three northern and three southern drums, who would they be?

2)If your were hosting dancing Competition and you were to have a 2000$ special what special would you do?

          and

          3) where would it be?
