Does anyone have information for this pow wow, winners etc

  • #2
This was a good pow wow, the committee was excellent. It was indoor in an arena similar to the one at Kinder, La. Seating and space were convenient. Parking was kind of tight, but the atmosphere was nice and the vendors were great. (my husband bought me a crystal bracelet watch that was awesome for 20 bucks, cheap date I know.LOL)
I had a nice time and I will try to name the winners, but there were 7 places and I did not get all of them. haha

2nd Peyote Rose Campos(last name not sure, Misty's little girl)
    1st Brittany Jones

    Jingle/Fancy:
    3rd: Weah Pomeceah
    1st: Rebekah Nevaquaya(yea!! my baby.)

    Teen Traditional:
    2nd Crystal Logan
    1st: IsaBelle Poorbuffalo(yea!!!)

    3rd: Yvonne Sadongei
    2nd: Tracy Pewo
1st Misty Blue (You know her, forgot last name, she did really well and I was glad she won. She is a good dancer and dancing in the south is tough, she deserved the win.)
    Buckskin:
I am not sure on these:
    1st Tonilee Tsatoke
    2nd Tonya Yarholar
    3rd Keri Jhane myers Sundown
    4th Jackie Tsontekoy

    1st Shema Yearby
    2nd Rebecca Roberts
    3rd Yvette Ewalk-GoodEagle
Not sure on the rest I know Rae Simmons, Donie Horse got in there.

    Straight:
Jason Light foot got first, Nashoba got 4th, Kyle Reems got 7th, not sure who else in this one, but it was stacked.

    Men's Fancy
    1st Michael Roberts
    Not sure on the rest

    Grass
1st Keeno Gallegos got first, Dj Yarholar, Doug Todome, then not sure after that

    Traditional;
1st BJ Haury, Rod Youngmen, Gabe Cleveland, not sure after that.

    Men's Fancy Special: Randy Moore

Good gourd dancing, they were on time and lots of intertribals and contesting. Very good pow wow, in my opinion. The committee said they would try to have it every year from now on, on the same dates, etc.
I am thankful for my grandparents, my parents, my brothers, my aunties and uncles, my children, my companion and all of those who influenced me to be strong and proud of being who I am and where I come from. Knowledge is power

                Choctaw Nation Powwow

I have to agree, I think the head judge was taking care of his own, maybe his family should have not contested, or maybe he should have had someone else pick the judges for his familys catorgies, anyway I have seen this family do the same thing in Livingston, Texas, they only make theirselfs look bad, loose respect, come on we all travel the circuit and know who is related. dont mean to make anyone upset, just wanting to comment.

Are there any pictures? I would love to see the Choctaw dresses. Do the women carry shawls and fans? My Grandmother was part Choctaw and I'd like to follow her traditions, but it seems at most powwows, plains style is what most women are wearing.
