Could start a whole new thread on this topic.......

I used to think that too.

But then I helped out with a major powwow and learned a little bit about powwow budgeting, in an urban atmosphere.

The facility is the most major expense. I figure for a facility the size of the Denver Colliseum it would run at least $25-30,000 per day. Then you gotta pay extra for the security, risers, sound, chairs, tables, floor covers, poles for identifying the singer's numbers, merchandise, insurance, etc., etc.


Now I have a greater appreciation for what goes on behind the scenes.

Then when the powwows over and you're spent, it's time to clean the place, make sure everyones out of the building, have a post meeting with the committee, discuss the problems that occured and pay the bills.

Well after a long and tense wait. Randy came up and told the announcer, "hey, I didn't even dance."

The first four got called up by number.

After the long and tense wait they also called up Lakota Clairmont, by name.

So to save face, they let the 5 consolation winners compete against each other to determine the winner. The five were:

Adam Nordwell, NV
Julius Not Afraid, SD (*L registered as from Oklahoma City)
Wayne Fox, ND
Lakota Clairmont, CO


Two out of the three judges were from Ft. Berthold rez.

Guess who won?

Hmmmmm You seem to be implying those Ft Berthold guys were less than honest and showed favoratism? Who were these guys anyway??

it's not like the rez u have to pay for everything like insurance, renting the building, Security,pay concession employee's,porters,ushers. If the pow wow goes over the time it is supposed to end you have to pay extra.

i wrote a letter to the pow wow asking the same questions and this is what i was told.

LOL! We met up these guys on Saturday night. They said they took a cab and the cab driver was taking them way out .. out on some dirt... the cab driver didn't know where Teddy's was... too funny. So after Teddy's closed both nights, we just partied at the Holiday Inn! Met some pretty cool peeps from the South.. they were lovin the Canadian chicks....
