  • My Prayer Feather

Osiyo! Ok, I've been told many different things about wearing my feather in my hair...some people tell me to wear it everywhere and others tell me to only wear it at powwows. I am single, so I wear only one. Can someone tell me where I'm supposed to wear it? My little sister and I are the last Cherokees of our family so I don't know where else to turn....

Im not real clear on your question, but as for my feathers I only wear them during pow-wows or certain occ... not for everyday use...

Well, since there is so much to deal with in where I live, I always keep my Prayer Feather with me, so that I know I have something to believe in when times are tough. I wear it to powwows, school, home, everywhere...is that bad? I'm not sure...

You have to be very careful if you are wearing your feather(s) all of the time. You never know who is watching you. If you don't have a permit for them, it could cause a lot of problems for you.
Through the good times and bad times, always pray.

Thank you Dancing Eagle. However I am not worried about who watches me..in my opinion, I do not see why we natives need permits to wear traditional feathers...but thats just me..

I have heard of people not having a permit as said and loosing their feathers it is a very bad and hurtfull thing to have happen ,worried or not.

Thank you, I appreciate your advice. When I was issued my feather, they told me that it was an "artificial" eagle feather or something, I dunno what it is...does it still spell danger..?

This might seem stupid, but better to ask a stupid question than to actually do something stupid, hehe.

I never got the chance to meet my grandfather, he passed when my mom was only a little girl, but according to my grandmother he followed the 'traditional' path, and though he respected...

Dad died last year in February & brother is in prison. I've been going to church & try to help myself.Plus I don't get spoken to on here or anywhere....

                                by Josiah
I recently recieved a nice vest as a gift and have worn it occasionally
What are your thoughts on wearing a vest in place of wearing your Blanket
I know the blanket can get hot sometimes especially around here
                                Just wondering
