  • Please help the Draper Family

*S*. I got the most heart wrenching call early this morning, one of the members of the Draper family called to say their house caught fire and burnt down to the ground. They are all okay and everyone got out of the house but they have nothing now. Thank the Creator that everyone is okay.

However, they have a safe place to stay now but will need alot of support from our powwow community. No one got out of the house with anything but the clothes on their back, the regalias, the clothes, purses, everything is gone.

I am going up there today with a van full of stuff for them for the time being. I will know later how to contact them in case any of you need to know. I will try to keep an update when I come back.

They are a good family and goodhearted people, its awful to think that something like this happened. I will lay down some tobacco for the family and say some special prayers for them.

    Molly

We just saw them this week in Farmington. I am truely thankful that they are all safe. It will be a rough time getting their material things back, but at least they are all safe.

A lot of us up here in South Dakota have Spike in our prayers already, so we will just continue on, fervently, that the family is put back whole again. As soon as we get the information, I'll make sure that it is announced on KILI, on the Pine Ridge Reservation, and I know that we will all do what we can, donation wise, to help out. That family means alot to the powwow community up this way, so you can count on all of us to do what we can...thats how we do it, right?

Prayers and best wishes to the family....

My prayers go out to this family. I'm so glad everyone got out safely. When my daughter told me I almost freaked out. Hope someone posts info on where to send donations, like a bank maybe or the Draper's address.

*S* We just got back from Farmington. We were able to see the family, everyone is safe. The house is destroyed, thanks to Samsonite most of Spike's regalia is saved except for his bustles (mostly singed). The family had not unpacked from GON yet so some of the regalia's were not in the house. However, they have lost everything. The most resilient thing was seeing Tommy and Spike having the 'hakuna matata' attitude along with the smiles. They are a strong loving family, I am keeping them in my prayers and thoughts. I wish I could have stayed longer but we had to leave back to Albuquerque. They are more in need of funds than anything, so if you can help, please do.

For those who would like to donate, I do have the relief fund information:

                      Send to:

                      Wells Fargo Bank
                      Draper Family Fire Donation Account
                      Acct# 5178269519

We'll probably head up there again on Sunday with another 'load'. Try to keep ya'all updated.

Holy! That is crazy! I bet that was a scary experience, but our hearts go out to that family as well. We saw them dance at Gatherings, that is something else. I'm sure they'll all bounce back and rebuild. The powwow community is praying for them, I'm sure.

Good to hear that the regalia was (mostly) safe. In a tragedy you find out who your friends are, and the Draper family is blessed to have you as a friend!

I really need a mailing address for that bank, if you could...we are going to post it whereever we can, and we are going to start calling the powwow people, especially the drums around here, so the mailing address would be great...and thank you for all that you are doing for the family.

I am writing this on the behalf of a dear dear friend Georgette Barber and her family. This morning I heard some tragic news, as her husband of 34 years of age, Bryan Barber, passed away in his sleep, apparently either of sleep apnea or an athsma attack. Fortunately it was a very quiet passing and...
